Windows 10 users are now liberated from Cortana. Well, at least during setup.
Microsoft has announced that it will disable the voice-over feature of its assistant during Windows 10 Pro, Enterprise, and Education setup. Cortana is still available in Windows 10 Home editions, so this will primarily benefit IT professionals who configure multiple machines.
The company stated that the modification is a result of user feedback. However, if you’re a Cortana fan, you can easily turn Cortana Narrator back on by pressing WIN + Ctrl + Enter.
Microsoft released Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18309 on January 3. The announcement is one of several changes and new features included in the build.
If you are not one of Microsoft’s early Windows testers, you will see this feature in the April release of the next major Windows 10 update. The update will include a new PIN reset experience, password-free accounts (sign in with an SMS code or Windows Hello), new cursor sizes, and numerous bug fixes.
Microsoft has promised that the April release will address several user issues. Let’s hope it’s not as problematic as the October update, which was pulled and re-released twice after its installation caused users’ data to vanish from their hard drives, and caused numerous problems with ZIP functions.
