Samsung introduced The Terrace in 2020, an outdoor TV that can be used by the pool, in the garden, or, as its name suggests, on a terrace. It is capable of withstanding the forces of nature. We haven’t seen many TVs, especially from well-known brands, that could compete with The Terrace, but that’s about to change with the introduction of the Skyworth Clarus S1, an outdoor TV that includes Google TV and spells trouble for Samsung.
The Clarus S1 is a Mini-LED television with more than 1,400 lightning nodes and a maximum luminance of 3,000 nits. In other words, it is 1,000 nits brighter than The Terrace. Skyworth’s television also includes Dolby Vision, a feature that Samsung’s television lacks. Similar to The Terrace, it has sensors that automatically adjust the brightness and color temperature, which is essential when using a television outdoors, where the lighting can change frequently.
Skyworth has opted for Google TV, a smart TV operating system whose popularity is growing daily, whereas Samsung is adamant about sticking with Tizen OS. Skyworth has not introduced an outdoor soundbar like Samsung, but it has equipped the Clarus with an eight-speaker, 100W audio system. Dolby Atmos is also available onboard. The Clarus S1 outdoor television is available in three sizes: 55 inches, 65 inches, and 75 inches.
The Clarus S1 outdoor television is waterproof, dustproof, and impact-resistant. It has an IP66 rating, which is more impressive than the IP55 rating of The Terrace. According to Skyworth, the television has an all-metal body and was “measured according to the most stringent industry standards.” Skyworth has yet to announce the TV’s availability and, more importantly, its price, which we assume will not be inexpensive.
