The Most Powerful 2-in-1 Gaming Laptop Is The Asus ROG Flow X13 With RTX 4070, As Revealed

For CES 2023, Asus announces the ROG Flow X13, X16, and Z13.

Asus announces a new lineup of ROG Flow gaming laptops ahead of CES 2023, including a redesigned Asus ROG Flow X13 with up to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 GPU.

We’re already big fans of the previous Asus ROG Flow X13, but 2023’s X13 promises a sleeker design and upgraded internals, and it’s shaping up to be the most potent 2-in-1 gaming laptop on the market. Asus also has updated versions of the ROG Flow X16 and ROG Flow Z13 with 13th Generation Intel processors and RTX 40 Series graphics.

Asus also unveiled a new ROG XG Mobile, which can now support an RTX 4090 GPU with a TGP of up to 175W. This can be installed on any of the new ROG Flow gaming laptops, and it promises desktop-level gaming performance.

A variety of brand-new laptops with the latest chips from Intel, AMD, and Intel are on display at CES 2023, including Asus’ lineup of “maxed-out” gaming laptops for 2023. For everything ROG Flow-related, see the list below.

Asus ROG Flow X13 (2023)

The Asus ROG Flow X13 is expected to launch in the second quarter of 2023, with prices beginning at £1,899 (approximately $2,266) in the United Kingdom. This is for a model with an RTX 4050 and an AMD R9-HS, so higher-end models will likely cost significantly more.

The footprint of the 2023 ROG Flow X13 chassis has been reduced by 10mm (0.4 inches), while the keyboard layout has been maintained at 15 inches and the battery capacity has been increased from 62Wh to 75Wh. In addition, the hinge allows for increased airflow, and the aluminum lid now features “gravitational waves” that increase carrying grip. In addition, it weighs only 1.4kg (3 pounds).

Expect a 1920 x 1080 FHD IR camera with Windows Hello support as well as a larger touchpad. In addition, the Flow X13 now features a 13.4-inch QHD+ (2560 x 1600) ROG Nebula Display touchscreen with a 165Hz refresh rate and 7ms response time, as well as complete DCI-P3 coverage and Corning Gorilla Glass DXC. Also available is an FHD+ (1920 x 1200) display configuration with a 120 Hz refresh rate and 3ms response time.

All 2023 ROG Flow machines feature Corning Gorilla Glass DXC, which increases hardness by 40 percent while significantly reducing surface reflections, making the Flow family more resistant to scratches and usable in brighter environments.

Regarding its internal components, this 13-inch gaming laptop packs a punch. Expect an AMD Ryzen 9 Zen 4 processor, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 GPU with 8GB GDDR6 video memory, up to 32GB LPDDR5 RAM, and a 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD for storage.

USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports, USB-C 4.0 with DisplayPort 1.4 and Power Delivery 3.0, USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 also with DisplayPort 1.4 and Power Delivery 3.0, HDMI 2.1b, a MicroSD card reader (SD 4.0), and a 3.5mm audio jack are included as port options.

A 1-zone RGB backlit Chiclet-style keyboard, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity, and two speakers with Smart Amp Technology and Dolby Atmos are also notable features.

Asus ROG Flow X16 (2023)

The updated Asus ROG Flow X16 is anticipated to launch in the second quarter of 2023 with prices beginning at £2,199 (approximately $2,623)

While the 2023 Flow X16 is expected to have a similar exterior design to its predecessor, there are several significant internal upgrades. This includes a 13th-generation Intel Core i9 13900H processor, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 GPU with 8GB GDDR6 video memory, up to 64GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and a 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD for storage.

Additionally, the Flow X16 offers two touch display options: an IPS panel and a mini-LED panel. Expect a 16-inch ROG Nebula HDR QHD+ (2560 x 1600) display with a 240Hz refresh rate, 3ms response time, and DCI-P3 color gamut coverage of 100 percent.

It shares similar features with the ROG Flow X13, such as a 1-zone RGB backlit Chiclet-style keyboard, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity, but it has four speakers with Smart Amp Technology and Dolby Atmos.

It has two USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports, a USB-C port with Thunderbolt 4 and DisplayPort 1.4 and Power Delivery 3.0, a USB-C port with DisplayPort 1.4 and Power Delivery 3.0, a USB-C port with DisplayPort 1.4 and Power Delivery 3.0, HDMI 2.1, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

In addition, a MUX Switch and Nvidia Advanced Optimus can be expected.

Asus ROG Flow Z13 (2023)

The Asus ROG Flow Z13 is now compatible with Nvidia’s RTX 40 Series. Similar to the X13 and X16, the Z13 will be released in the second quarter of 2023 with a starting price of £1,999 (approximately $2,380).

Excitingly, it has an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 GPU and a 13th Gen Intel Core i9 13900H CPU with a TGP of up to 65W — a 62% increase compared to the Z13. This is impressive for a 2-in-1 detachable gaming laptop, and Asus attributes it to its liquid metal and vapor chamber technologies.

The ROG Flow Z13 is also equipped with a 13.4-inch ROG Nebula Display QHD+ (2560 x 1600) IPS touch panel with a 165Hz refresh rate and 7ms response time, as well as 100% DCI-P3 gamut coverage and G-SYNC support.

In addition to the standard 1-zone RGB backlit Chiclet-style keyboard, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity, you can anticipate up to 16GB of DDR5 RAM and a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD to boost its performance.

Ports include a USB-A 3.0 port, a USB-C port with Thunderbolt 4 and DisplayPort 1.4 and Power Delivery 3.0, a USB-C port with DisplayPort 1.4 and Power Delivery 3.0, a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port with DisplayPort 1.4 and Power Delivery 3.0, a MicroSD card reader, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Small and powerful, Asus’s laptop weighs just 1.1kg (2.4 pounds) and features a detachable keyboard (340g). This machine has a lot to brag about. Even more impressive is its ability to connect to a brand-new ROG XG Mobile GPU (2023). Plug this in, and it will support an RTX 4090 GPU with 16GB of GDDR6 video memory.

We’re eager to test each of Asus’ new ROG Flow gaming laptops, especially now that they feature the newest processors from Intel, AMD, and Nvidia. Will it make our list of the best laptops for gaming? Time alone will tell. Check out what you need to know about CES 2023 in the interim.
