The Galaxy Z Flip series may receive some of the most significant upgrades since the release of the first model in 2020 during the following year. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 will feature a new hinge and a larger cover display. The revised hinge design will reportedly reduce the visibility of the foldable display’s crease.
The ongoing Galaxy Z Flip 4 has a cover display with a size of 1.9 inches and decent usability. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 will reportedly feature a cover display larger than 3.0 inches in 2018. In other words, the cover display will be increased by at least 60 percent. (via @DSCCRoss)
Samsung has previously increased the size of the cover screen, and this would be the second time that this aspect of the Galaxy Z Flip is modified. Before the release of the Galaxy Z Flip 3, foldable flip phones were limited to a 1.1-inch cover display.
A hinge redesign reduces the visibility of the display’s fold
The hinge design of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 will reportedly receive a significant upgrade next year. The phone will feature a new hinge that should provide at least one benefit: a horizontal crease on the inner foldable display that is less noticeable.
These are significant modifications to the Galaxy Z Flip series, which is likely why we’re hearing about them so early in the phone’s development. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 is only a few months old. Samsung released it in late August, and it seems poised to become the most successful foldable phone to date.
Recently, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 was named “Product of the Year” in a contest that did not even cover electronic devices. Samsung plans to ship 26 million foldable Galaxy phones in 2019, and the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be upgraded with a larger cover screen and a better hinge as part of this strategy. In August or September of 2023, Samsung will likely release the Galaxy Z Flip 5.
