According to a SamMobile report, Samsung is working on a method to make the use of fingerprint scanners more secure. Sammy is reportedly considering replacing the small scanner used to read a single fingerprint with a larger one capable of scanning multiple fingers simultaneously. CEO of ISORG, a French company that manufactures fingerprint sensors for smartphones, Dieter May, recently stated in an interview that Samsung may soon have this technology available for its OLED displays.
This technology, known as All-in-One sensing, will be included in Samsung’s OLED 2.0 next-generation panels, as previously announced. Using three fingerprints simultaneously to verify the identity of a smartphone user is 2.5109 times more secure than using a single fingerprint. The intention is to use the entire screen to simultaneously scan all three fingers.
May of ISORG anticipates that Samsung will release OLED 2.0 panels by 2025. In an interview with OLED-inc, the executive stated that he does not anticipate Apple to engage in multiple fingerprint scanning since new iPhone models rely on Face ID. Samsung is therefore anticipated to not only be the first phone manufacturer to offer multiple-fingerprint scanning, but also to lead the smartphone industry in All-in-One sensing.
Imagine how much more secure you will feel knowing that AIO sensing is 2.5 billion times more secure than the current industry standard of using a single fingerprint validation to verify payments made via mobile payment platforms like Samsung Pay and Google Pay.
Yes, you in the rear who is raising your hand. What? The first mobile phone with a fingerprint sensor? No, it was not an iPhone 5s, as you may have assumed. It was the 2004 Pantech GI100. The first smartphone to feature a fingerprint scanner? The iPhone 5s was not the culprit. In 2007, it was the Toshiba G500. Okay, how about the first smartphone with a touchscreen and a fingerprint scanner? That must be an iPhone 5s, correct? WRONG. It was the 2011 Motorola ATRIX 4G.
In 2012, Apple acquired biometrics company AuthenTec for $350 million. The iPhone 5s was the first iPhone to feature Touch ID a year later. It now appears that Samsung will be the first company to offer AIO multiple fingerprint scanning, which will significantly increase the security of your phone’s data.
