Samsung and Harman introduced the Digital Cockpit last year, bringing Bixby to cars for an enhanced driving experience. The company has now unveiled the 2019 model at the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The first iteration of Bixby allowed users to control aspects of their home while driving, but the 2019 upgrade introduces reverse integration.
With Digital Cockpit 2019, consumers can use the Galaxy Home or other Samsung devices powered by Bixby to check their car’s fuel level, start the engine, or turn on the air conditioning before leaving their home. The new cockpit also allows for up to six displays in the vehicle, including a display for the front passenger and displays for the rear passengers. Each display can save preferences such as seat position and screen settings for different users, and mobile workers can even use Samsung DeX.
Naturally, Samsung is also relying on the upcoming 5G era to make the Digital Cockpit compatible with all of its IoT and Bixby-enabled products, though it remains to be seen which automakers will implement the Digital Cockpit in their vehicles. Samsung has not yet announced a list of automakers or vehicles compatible with its 5G network, but as the months pass and the launch of 5G networks in markets such as the United States and South Korea approaches, more information should emerge.
