Samsung has just released information regarding the first security patch of 2019. This week, Google released the January 2019 security patch for Pixel devices, but Samsung has yet to release the patch for any device other than the Galaxy Note 9, which will receive the patch alongside the Android Pie update. Nonetheless, this may be because January’s patch is one of the smallest in recent months in terms of the number of critical vulnerabilities it addresses.
The January 2019 patch for Android addresses three critical vulnerabilities and several high-risk vulnerabilities. It also addresses four vulnerabilities in Samsung’s software, the most significant of which is the possibility that the user’s access to data over a Wi-Fi network could be interrupted. As usual, some vulnerabilities have not been disclosed to prevent their exploitation before the new security patch reaches every user.
In the coming days, we anticipate Samsung to begin updating devices with the January 2019 security patch. More information regarding the new patch can be found on Samsung’s security website.
