Will the ‘unlaunched’ RTX 4080 12GB pricing remain?
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti graphics cards have already been listed for sale on Chinese online retailers, but the bad news is that the pricing is nearly identical to the pre-cancellation RTX 4080 12GB model pricing. Taobao and Baidu have multiple listings of custom card designs from Colorful, Gigabyte, Inno3D, and MSI (no Nvidia reference models) at a variety of prices (h/t VideoCardz).
The ten different models range in price from 7,199 RMB (US$1,034) to 8,399 RMB (US$1,206) at Chinese retailers. Before its “un-launch,” the RTX 4080 12GB has an official MSRP of 7,199 RMB in China. The official Chinese MSRP for the RTX 4080 16GB is $9,499. However, the RTX 4080 16GB’s street price in China has dropped since its launch, and it is now available for around 8,499 RMB – uncomfortably close to the price tags on some of the new RTX 4070 Ti models.
These are, of course, pre-release prices in another country, so we’ll have to wait a little longer to learn the actual Nvidia MSRP. Still, the 4070 Ti is unlikely to inherit the previous generation’s $599 price point.
The retail tax in China is 13%. This tax is deducted from the best USD equivalent price of $1,034 to yield $899. You can see the full specs compared to the GeForce RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 16GB, as well as the proposed US MSRP of $899 if you go back to the pre-launch details of the RTX 4080 12GB.
When Nvidia unveiled the RTX 4080 12GB, optimists widely expected that the product price would be reduced to reflect the new product’s lower class/tier. However, rumors have circulated that this will not be the case, and these Chinese etailer prices are yet another strong indication that the only thing Nvidia and partners have changed is the packaging/model numbers, and they will stick with the USD 899 MSRP.

Nvidia is expected to unveil the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 4070, as well as RTX 40 GPUs for laptop manufacturers, at CES 2023 next week. If readers are dissatisfied with the RTX 4070 Ti’s RTX 4080 12GB-a-like ($899) pricing, they can vote with their wallet.
