NVIDIA will host a special “GeForce Beyond” event at the Consumer Electronics Show next week, in case there was any doubt (although there was never any doubt). Technically, it begins a couple of days before the official start of CES, but this is the typical pattern: announcements, both large and small, begin to pour in early and continue throughout the week.
The official dates for CES are January 5 through January 8. Nevertheless, the GeForce Beyond event is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, January 3 at 8:00 am PST (11:00 am EST). Presumably, this will involve a keynote address from NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang.
This event will be live-streamed on the YouTube and/or Twitch channels NVIDIA. According to NVIDIA’s GeForce Beyond at CES 2023 portal, the Livestream will deliver information regarding “the most recent advancements in gaming, creating, and graphics technology” as part of the NVIDIA Special Address at CES 2023. So what exactly should we anticipate? Let’s dive in…
What You Can Anticipate From NVIDIA’s GeForce Beyond Event at CES 2023
Nothing is ever assured when it comes to gambling. However, if Las Vegas offered odds on NVIDIA unveiling a GeForce RTX 4070 Ti at the GeForce Beyond event, the payout would be minuscule, as it would be as close to a certainty as possible in the world of betting. GeForce RTX 4070 Ti leaks and rumors are abundant, and even NVIDIA isn’t hiding what’s to come. Check out this…
This is a screenshot of the current system requirements for NVIDIA’s Omniverse View platform, as of the time this article was written. In the GPU section of the Recommended category, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, a graphics card that has not yet been announced, is listed.
Who knows if NVIDIA had always intended to release a GeForce RTX 4070 Ti at CES, but the moment it became inevitable was when the GPU manufacturer “unlaunched” the 12GB variant of its GeForce RTX 4080. In response to blowback from enthusiasts regarding the 12GB variant being a reduced version of the 16GB GeForce RTX 4080 with less memory, fewer CUDA cores, and a narrower bus, NVIDIA made the decision.
Since it occurred so late in the game (after the announcement), it was logical that the canceled GPU would eventually be reborn/rebadged as a different SKU, so that NVIDIA’s hardware partners would not be left holding the bag. Multiple leaks and rumors indicate that the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti has the same specifications as the unreleased 12GB GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, and it has recently appeared on a retail listing with the same price.
It will be interesting to see if the upcoming card launches with an MSRP of $899, or if NVIDIA opts for a lower price point to compete more effectively with AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 XTX. We will find out shortly.
NVIDIA is almost certain to announce its initial lineup of GeForce RTX 40 series mobile GPUs based on Ada Lovelace alongside the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti. This month, an upgraded HP Omen 17 gaming laptop with multiple mobile GeForce RTX 40 series options were unveiled (4090, 4080, 4070, and 4060). And a Samsung Galaxy Book Pro with a mobile GeForce RTX 4050 GPU was spotted last month.
If we had to speculate, the major announcements will be the desktop GeForce RTX 4070 Ti and a handful of Ada Lovelace-based laptop GPUs. Beyond these hardware components, it wouldn’t surprise us if NVIDIA announced additional games supporting DLSS 3 in the future. We may also be in for some sort of surprise. NVIDIA unveiled the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti at last year’s CES event, for instance.
