At CES 2023, new Nitro gaming rigs were revealed.
As the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) begins, Acer unveils its updated gaming laptop line, Nitro. The Acer Nitro 16 and Acer Nitro 17 will feature the latest Intel Core processors and Nvidia GeForce RTX 40-series graphics.
The Acer Nitro laptops are designed for gamers who do not have tens of thousands of dollars to spend on a gaming rig. Whether you want to play through your backlog of games or edit gameplay content for YouTube, the Nitro line can accommodate your needs.
Acer Nitro 16 2023
As previously stated, the Nitro 16 models feature 13th Gen Intel Core CPUs and Nvidia GeForce RTX 40-series GPUs. It has 5% more screen space compared to its predecessor, the Nitro 16. In addition, a WUXGA or WQXGA screen with a refresh rate of 165Hz was added to the panel.
The display supports Nvidia Advanced Optimus (NAO), a game-changing feature that enables dynamic switching between the integrated and discrete graphics on a laptop. In other words, thanks to NAO, the system “knows” whether a game or app would benefit most from high-performance graphics or integrated graphics, which contributes to the increased power efficiency of the Acer Nitro 16. This results in longer battery life!
The display has 100% sRGB color gamut coverage, a response time of 3 milliseconds, and an improved screen-to-body ratio (84%). Consumers are receiving a much more visually appealing viewing experience with each passing generation.
The Nitro 16 can be configured with up to 16GB of DDR5 RAM (upgradeable to 32GB using two soDIMM modules). The Nitro 16’s dimensions and weight are 14 x 10.9 x 1.05 inches and 5.7 pounds, respectively.
Acer Nitro 17 2023
In addition to 13th Generation Intel Core processors, the Nitro 17 is also available with an HX processor. This processor tier is designed for laptops that serve as desktop replacements and delivers top-tier performance.
This gaming rig features multiple 17.3-inch displays that support Nvidia Advanced Optimus. You can select from a 1080p display with 144Hz or 165Hz refresh rates or a QHD panel with a 165Hz refresh rate. A panel’s screen-to-body ratio is 81%.
Expect a large touchpad (4.9 x 3.2 inches) and a 4-zone RGB backlit keyboard on the deck. The Nitro 17 weighs approximately six pounds and has a thickness of approximately 1.10 inches.
Bottom line
The Nitro 16 and 17 are equipped with up to 32GB of DDR5 memory and up to 2TB of PCIe Gen 2 storage. As for cooling, the Nitro laptops are equipped with dual fans, four fan vents, and thermal grease made from liquid metal, ensuring that they remain cool during intense gaming sessions. You can also use the preinstalled NitroSense application to monitor and control fan speed and power performance settings.
There is an HDMI 2.1 port, a microSD card reader, two Thunderbolt 4 ports that support power delivery, and three USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports available for connectivity.
The bundle also includes one month of Xbox Game Pass or PC Game Pass, which grants access to hundreds of popular games.
Both the Nitro 16 and Nitro 17 are priced at a minimum of $1,200. They are scheduled to hit shelves in May.
