In 2019, the 14-year-old email client will undergo significant changes.
Mozilla’s largest undertaking may be Firefox, but its 14-year-old email client, Thunderbird, will receive significant attention in 2019. Mozilla is planning additional interface and usability enhancements this year, following the release of Thunderbird 60 in August and its redesigned UI elements.
According to Mozilla, the Thunderbird team is expanding in 2019, in part to focus on more interface and user experience overhauls. As part of the enhancements planned for this year, Gmail integration will be enhanced, with support for labels and other Gmail-specific features forthcoming.
Mozilla also plans to prioritize operating system-native notifications. This means that Thunderbird will deliver notifications through Windows 10’s built-in notification center for Windows users.
The settings and encryption interfaces will be redesigned to make it easier to ensure that your emails are encrypted and locate specific settings.
There is no word on a specific timeline for any of the outlined changes, but if Mozilla follows its roadmap, you can expect these features to be released throughout 2019.
