Good news for all Vatican City technologists: Android apps can now be run on Windows 11.
Android apps on Windows 11 were a big selling point for the operating system, but they weren’t immediately available to everyone. Fortunately, Microsoft is gradually correcting this by announcing support for a slew of new countries.
Microsoft’s New List of Android App Compatibility Countries
According to OnMSFT, Microsoft has added several new countries to the list of Android app-compatible countries on Windows 11. The complete list is available on the Microsoft Support page.
If you don’t like scrolling through bullet point lists, OnMSFT summarized the countries in a single paragraph:
Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Guernsey, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Japan, Jersey, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, San Marino, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States, and Vatican City are among the countries represented.
If your country has been added, you should be able to download the Amazon Appstore and start using apps right away. Just keep in mind that you’ll need an Amazon account to access the Appstore.
Excluded Countries are not the be-all and end-all.
While it’s great that Microsoft is allowing more countries to use Android apps on Windows 11, that doesn’t mean those who aren’t included can’t. Indeed, one method allows you to install the Google Play Store on Windows 11, which even people in supported countries use if they dislike using the Amazon Appstore.
Regardless of the alternatives, it’s encouraging to see Microsoft expanding Android app compatibility to more countries. By providing users with an officially supported way to get Android apps to work, it removes a lot of the tinkering involved in running Android apps on a Windows 11 PC, allowing users to spend less time tweaking and more time using their apps.
‘Appy Days in Other Countries
As Microsoft expands the availability of Android apps for Windows 11 to more countries, it will help bring one of the operating system’s most anticipated features to more people than ever before. Let’s hope the company maintains its momentum and allows more countries to join in the future.
