The M2 Pro Mac mini’s Geekbench results are superior to those of the M1 version, but they also significantly surpass those of the M1 Max.
Apple has not yet released the Mac mini with M2 Pro, but Geekbench now lists a device with the identifier “Mac14,12.” It appears to be the new M2 Pro configuration of the Mac mini with 16GB of unified memory and a 12-core processor.
The single-core and multi-core scores are 1952 and 15013, respectively
The results of benchmark tests may not be a great indicator of how a machine will perform in actual use, but they do provide a basis for comparison. The previous Geekbench scores for the M1 Mac mini were 1651 for single-core and 5181 for multi-core.
Note that this comparison is between the M1 and the M2 Pro, not the standard M2. Still, there is a significant difference. Moreover, the average Geekbench scores for the M1 Max were 1727 single-core and 12643 multi-core.
It appears that Apple has successfully increased the performance of the M2 series in comparison to the already impressively quick M1. However, benchmark tests are not conclusive either.
In November 2022, for example, benchmarks for a Mac equipped with the M2 Max leaked online and appeared to demonstrate little improvement. Then, in December 2022, a separate leak of benchmark data revealed significantly better performance.
The M2 Pro Mac mini is now available for preorder, and shipments will commence on January 24, 2022.
