How To Charge Your iPhone Faster

Is there anything worse than having to wait for your iPhone to charge when you have an appointment? Even if you do everything possible to extend the life of your iPhone’s battery, it will eventually run out of juice and you will have to wait for it to charge. While waiting for your iPhone to charge may seem interminable, the apparent long charge time isn’t entirely psychological. There is no magic trick that will charge your iPhone’s battery from 0% to 100% in 10 minutes, but there are a few things you can do to ensure your iPhone’s charging capabilities aren’t limited.

Make use of a wall charger

When charging your iPhone, you should always try to use a wall charger. While USB charging cables make it simple to connect your iPhone to a PC, laptop, or gaming console, doing so almost always results in a longer charge time. Even if you use a lower-wattage charger, an outlet will usually charge faster most of the time.

Avoid using wireless charging

While wireless charging is extremely convenient (and extremely cool), it does not perform as well as plugging in your iPhone. When you have time to spare or are charging overnight, use a wireless charging pad for your iPhone, but when time is of the essence, use a good old-fashioned cable.

Make use of a quick charger

Every iPhone model since the iPhone 8 supports “fast charging,” which should get your device from 0% to 50% in about 30 minutes. That sounds great, but Apple has never included a charger with enough power to support fast charging. That free charger from your older model is most likely a slow 5W charger, and fast charging an iPhone 12 or newer requires at least a 20W charger. And Apple no longer includes a charger with its iPhones. A higher-wattage charger will charge your device more quickly, but there is a limit. It’s not like you can just buy a 100W charger and charge your iPhone in a matter of minutes. The iPhone 13 Pro Max, for example, has a charging limit of 27W and will not charge faster than that with a compatible charger. Here are some of our favorite fast chargers from well-known brands: If you want to reach that 20W threshold but don’t want to spend a fortune on a new charger, the official Apple adapter is the way to go. If you have multiple iPhones in your home and are constantly fighting over the charging cable, the Spigen ArcStation Pro 40W dual charger will solve all of your problems. At 40W, you can charge two iPhones simultaneously. When only one port is used, it can provide up to 30W of power for charging larger devices. This Anker 725 Charger (Nano II 65W) is a powerhouse. The top port provides 20W of power for iPhone charging, while the bottom port can deliver 45W. This is the charger you want around when all of your devices are running low on power. Despite its higher power capabilities when compared to lower-wattage chargers, it is still a very small adapter.

Don’t use your iPhone while it’s charging

Leave your iPhone alone while it charges and recovers its strength! Not only will heavy usage, such as streaming videos or playing games, slow down your charging efforts; but texting or scrolling through Instagram will also slow things down. If your battery is low on power, try to leave it alone while it charges.

Turn off your iPhone to charge it faster

If possible, turn your iPhone off completely to charge it as quickly as possible. Even if you leave your iPhone alone, it’s probably refreshing apps or pulling your location — all of which will slow charging.

Switch to Low Power Mode

While this will not increase your charging time any more than completely turning off your iPhone, enabling Low Power Mode disables many background functions that can drain the battery. To enable Low Power Mode, launch the Settings app and navigate to the “Battery” menu. The toggle for Low Power Mode is located at the very top of the menu. If you want to keep an eye on your battery, you can set Low Power Mode to activate automatically when your iPhone reaches a certain percentage of its capacity.
