The state funds parents who undergo training – a child makes full use of its parents, even without having to work or even complete a vocational training. Education not only means caring for the child but also requires financial support as a rule. How can this work?
Arrange child and education
Of course, you have to find a training place first. A child can always be a failure due to illness, so one or the other employer may prefer a childless trainee. This can have financial reasons because hiring a trainee is costly for companies. Also, concerns about whether the learning can be handled, are possible.
Nevertheless, openly declare that you have a child, but emphasize at the same time your interest in the training place and your commitment. Also, ask if part-time education is possible in the company. This facilitates the temporal organization. Also, the Federal Employment Agency provides information about, particularly family-friendly companies.
Find out about care during your absence and find out what kind of financial support you might need. Then you will be faced with the challenge of organizing your daily routine.
Take regular time to organize the following week. Make a note of your working or school hours, any appointments such as visits to the doctor and the childcare time.
You can also create a meal plan and write a shopping list based on it. A plan is also helpful for upcoming household tasks and tasks to be completed. Of course, you should not miss having time with your child. So you have everything at a glance and can organize the days accordingly. Do not be too strict with yourself – you should be able to handle the workload, and it does not matter if something goes wrong.
The state supports the commitment of parents undergoing training. In addition to your training allowance, you can take parental benefits. This is granted regardless of the number of weekly hours.
For your child, you are entitled to child benefit and a tax-free child allowance, which is to be registered with the tax office. The care is also supported by a so-called childcare allowance, which is granted on application by the Federal Employment Agency.
Due to your relatively low income during the training, you may be entitled to the housing allowance. This is granted based on your total income, as long as your household partner is also working.
Depending on the type and financing of your accommodation, the amount of income of the parents or the partner as well as the amount of your remuneration, the Federal Employment Agency grants vocational training allowance.
This includes a lump sum to finance your livelihood, any cost of teaching materials, travel expenses and the like. If your income does not provide basic benefits despite subsidies, it can also be supplemented with unemployment benefit II.
Full-time or part-time education?
If for example, you have no opportunity to complete your education full-time, for example, due to the limited care available to your child, you can request a reduction in working hours. There are different possibilities.
Shortening the working time to 20 hours per week usually increases the length of training so that you can ultimately handle the same workload as full-time trainees.
With a working time of 25 to 30 hours, you may be able to complete the training without lengthening the duration. This assumes that you are likely to reach the training goal anyway. A reduction in working hours requires your legitimate interest and the employer’s consent.
Care of the child
If there are relatives, for example the parents or parents-in-law, it is of course possible to take care of them. Otherwise, you can place it in a nursery or a childminder. From the age of three years, the kindergarten offers .
If you have problems with the financing, ask the youth welfare office for a possible support. Under certain conditions, grants will be awarded for care.
Nevertheless, it can happen that your child gets sick and therefore can not be cared for. In such a case, you must stay at home and may do so provided you provide the training company with a medical certificate of necessity. Under certain circumstances, the compensation for such days or is reduced. This can be compensated in the case of a family-insured child by the children’s sickness benefit of the statutory health insurance.
