10 month baby milestones – 10 month baby care tips

The tenth month of life: discovering small personalities –  Is your baby rather shy or likes to make contact with others as long as it is close to you? Already in the tenth month can be from the behavior of your baby first conclusions about his subsequent personality.

The magical first steps

A ten-month-old baby often likes to explore its surroundings on all fours. As soon as it can stand and hold on, it will also run around the furniture. This is the time when the first, single steps will not be long in coming. Some parents are worried about the tenth month because their baby is not yet crawling forward or maybe not sitting alone. The development of each person is completely individual.

Some babies also skip developmental steps or retrieve them later. So few start immediately with running tests without a long crawling phase. Others can crawl and run before they can sit down alone. The moment when a baby walks alone for the first time can be just before the first or well after the first birthday.

Just trust your baby. It will go every step of development when it feels physically and mentally ready. In case of uncertainty, midwives and pediatricians can help you with their experience.

Avoid baby talk from now on

For many adults, it is a real pleasure to talk to the little ones in the baby gibberish. But for a good language development, it is better to speak a lot and correctly with a baby. Explain to your baby everywhere and all the time what you are doing. Even if it does not understand individual words and overall contexts, it nevertheless trains the sense of language. Little by little it will discover and pronounce keywords for itself.

Just as the development path to free running is unique, so does the language develop individually. Few babies can speak one-word sentences with only ten months. Others delight your parents just before the second birthday with the first words. Always keep in mind when monitoring your baby’s speech skills: What your child says is far from what your child has understood and known. Even if your baby talks very poorly, at ten months she often understands a lot better than you might expect.

Suddenly encountering sudden fears

The more your baby explores his surroundings, the more he encounters things he does not initially understand. This leads to fear for many babies. Even noises that would otherwise never cause alarm can now lead to stress. If your child is whiny, whining, or very anxious, hug it understandingly and try to find out what scares them. Assure your baby that you understand and that everything is good.

Do not eat anything from the ground

Understanding the environment means for babies to put them in their mouths, to feel them with their tongues and to taste them.Around the tenth month of life, you should, therefore, pay particular attention to what your baby at home and on the road on the ground and wants to taste. Even the dog and cat food are often not safe from the curiosity of small world explorers.

Exciting game and excursion ideas in the 10th month

The first trip with the big siblings to the zoo or the indoor play hall. Around the tenth month, such ideas provide the first time for a lot of fun. But also at home you can experience fun moments with the following games with your offspring and at the same time promote your motor skills and language development:

  • Readout tents and stories in the local garden or in the winter time in the nursery.
  • Toys sort
  • Stack bowls
  • Make music (with wooden sticks, pots and wooden spoons, etc.)
  • Chairs-running. If your child likes to pull herself up, stand and take some steps along the couch, they can put some chairs next to each other. It can move along accordingly.
  • Catch soap bubbles
  • Water games (for example: pouring water from one plastic cup into another, training fine motor skills to show what is full and empty.)

Useful for baby’s 10th month

A walker is a great help for small children who are just taking their first steps. Also, many cars offer additional play opportunities such as the transport of toys or the use as a doll carriage, which stimulate to run over.

Children’s cutlery & dishes

At the age of 10 months, children have their first teeth and can already partly eat with family food. Also, they often start to eat independently from this age. The little ones are therefore particularly pleased with this time about their cutlery and a plate with a sweet motif.

Already from the start of the baby, babies need small amounts of additional drinks for their fluid balance in addition to the milk. With the increase of solid food in the nutritional plan the demand increases, at the age of 10-12 months, infants need about one liter of liquid per day. Especially unsweetened drinks like water and tea are recommended.
