Best Xiaomi Phones 2022: Mi, Redmi, Poco And Black Shark

The top Xiaomi smartphones are among the most affordable on the market. Although the brand’s products are not as widely available as iPhones and Samsung phones, they are praised for their superior build quality and cameras. Valid for both its high-end and less expensive models.

In addition, because Xiaomi produces so many different handsets – some of which are among our best – there is a Xiaomi phone for everyone. This is the case whether you are searching for the best budget or camera phone. It’s only a matter of narrowing down your options and selecting the best one.

Since we’ve exhaustively reviewed all of them, using each for an extended period and testing all their features, including their cameras, battery life, performance, and screen quality, we’re the perfect experts to assist you in making this decision.

We’ve ranked them based on our knowledge and experience with each device, placing the Xiaomi 12 Pro in the first place due to its overall performance, sleek design, and fast charging capabilities. You may prefer the excess of the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra or the affordability of the Xiaomi Poco X5 NFC.

If Xiaomi is not for you, we have also compiled a list of the best Android phones and the best iPhones. With the imminent release of the iPhone 14, you will have more affordable options from the most popular brands.

Our Top Picks

What is the distinction between Xiaomi’s various brands?

There are numerous Xiaomi brands, which can lead to confusion. It begins with its core Xiaomi products, which formerly bore the ‘Mi’ moniker but are now branded with the company’s name. This is where you’ll find its most recent flagships and foldable, as well as a variety of more affordable options.

Redmi is a sub-brand of Xiaomi’s smartphone lineup. Xiaomi still manufactures these, but the Redmi brand indicates that the phone will be less expensive than the Xiaomi flagship line.

There is also a Black Shark. This is the company’s gaming phone line, emphasizing pure performance and features such as advanced cooling, additional controls, and daring designs.

Ultimately, Poco. Poco began as a sub-brand of Xiaomi, but it has since been spun off as an independent company. However, it still utilizes Xiaomi’s R&D and software, so Poco phones are frequently comparable to Xiaomi and Redmi. As with Redmi devices, they are typically inexpensive and prioritize power and performance.

Should I purchase a Chinese Xiaomi phone?

If you live in the United States, you may be tempted to purchase a Xiaomi phone from Chinese importers such as GearBest and Geekbuying. Even if you live elsewhere in the world, some models are exclusive to China and may tempt you to import, including the top-tier 12S Ultra.

If so, purchase a device with a global ROM installed or be prepared to modify the software once it arrives (novice users should avoid this). The global models have full access to Google services and an English-language interface. If you purchase a Xiaomi phone with a Chinese ROM by mistake, we explain how to install Google Play here.

Second, if you purchase from China, you should be aware that your consumer rights differ from those of other countries and that if something goes wrong, you will have a more difficult time obtaining after-sales support.

Moreover, delivery can be a hassle. Delivery times will generally be longer, although free and express shipping options are typically available. More than that, however, there may be additional costs: you may be required to pay import duty upon arrival, which is calculated based on the phone’s declared value on the shipping documents, plus an additional administration fee.

How we evaluate

To compile this list of the best Xiaomi smartphones, we used each model for at least a week in most cases. This testing included utilizing the camera, pushing the processor with high-end games, multitasking, determining how long the battery lasted – and how quickly it charged – and using each phone as our primary device during the testing period.

Thus, we understand how each Xiaomi phone performs and can compare each model to other Xiaomi handsets and the broader smartphone market.

Using this information and the price, we determined which phones merited inclusion and how they should be ranked.

10 Best Xiaomi phones 2022

To assist you, we have selected the best Xiaomi phones. Or, if you prefer, the best ones available for purchase in the West. The Xiaomi 12s Ultra, for instance, is not only the best Xiaomi phone to date but also the best camera phone our reviewer has ever used – but it’s only available in China. Similarly, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 is the company’s best foldable phone, but it is currently only available in China.

1. Xiaomi's best phone right now: Xiaomi 12 Pro

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”1″]

The Xiaomi 12 Pro is currently our favorite smartphone from the company for various reasons. The Pro has a gorgeous 6.73-inch display, lightning-fast 120W charging, a sleek design, and three 50MP cameras – all in a device that, in some regions, undercuts similar-specification competitors.

This device is ideal for gamers, photographers, and entertainment enthusiasts due to its powerful performance. And it is straightforward to recommend over the Mi 11 of 2021 or the Xiaomi 12 non-Pro.

The device does not have an IP rating, but it does have some water- and dust-resistant features. Its software is also a bit bloated, and we found its camera’s zoom capabilities subpar (limited to 2x optical zoom). Despite these minor flaws, this is an excellent device.

  • Release date: April 2022
  • Screen size: 6.7-inch
  • CPU: Snapdragon 8 Gen 1
  • RAM: 8GB/12GB / Storage: 128GB/256GB
  • Rear camera: 50MP (wide) + 50MP (ultrawide, 115-degree) + 50MP (telephoto, 2x optical)
  • Front camera: 32MP
  • Sleek finish
  • Incredibly fast charging
  • Great camera
  • Capable performer
  • Limited optical zoom
  • No IP rating

2. A great older flagship: Xiaomi Mi 11

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”2″]

The Xiaomi Mi 11 was the company’s flagship smartphone for 2021, featuring new camera modes, screen technologies, and rear camera designs at a premium price. We praised the phone’s macro photography mode (using a custom rear lens), its great-looking screen with a high resolution and refresh rate, and the processing power provided by its high-end chipset.

Although this phone represents the most advanced technology Xiaomi had in 2021, its price may deter some consumers, though it is frequently on sale. The battery life was also questionable and has since surpassed the Xiaomi 12. Despite this, if you’re looking for a great smartphone from the company, you should still consider it among the top options.

  • Resolution: 1440 x 3200
  • CPU: Snapdragon 888
  • RAM: 8GB/ Storage: 128GB/256GB
  • Rear camera: 108MP (wide) + 13MP (ultrawide, 123-degree) + 5MP (macro)
  • Front camera: 20MP
  • Excellent OLED 120Hz screen
  • Great performance
  • 55W wired / 50W wireless charging
  • Android 11 out of the box
  • Likely far more affordable than similarly specked phones
  • Good but not class-leading camera
  • Temperamental fingerprint scanner
  • No IP protection
  • Global availability still limited
  • Slightly odd corner bezels
  • USB 2.0

3. The best Redmi phone: Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”3″]

The Note 10 Pro is the best smartphone from Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi. It has superior specifications and a reasonable price, making it an excellent buy.

The phone has a super-high-resolution 108MP primary camera, a large and vibrant 120Hz display, and a massive 5,020mAh battery – it’s a standout among budget phones. Our review praised the display and battery life, noting that the device can withstand a full day of heavy use.

In addition to its screen and battery life, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro has excellent stereo speakers, making it ideal for movie marathons and boxset binges. A few features are missing from the Note 10 Pro – 5G, but if you don’t need those, this phone is sufficient.

  • Screen size: 6.67-inch
  • Resolution: 1080 x 2400
  • CPU: Snapdragon 732G
  • RAM: 6GB/8GB/ Storage: 64GB/128GB
  • Rear camera: 108MP (wide) + 8MP (ultrawide, 118-degree) + 5MP (macro) + 2MP (depth)
  • Front camera: 16MP
  • Beautiful design; IP53-rated.
  • Excellent 120Hz AMOLED, smooth and responsive.
  • Outstanding battery life, fast to charge.
  • Very good stereo speakers.
  • Dependable performance, no overheating.
  • All cameras excel in daylight, photo and video.
  • MIUI 12 is smooth on top of Android 11.
  • IR blaster, 3.5mm jack, FM radio, NFC, microSD.
  • A higher-grade chipset would have been more exciting.
  • No reverse charging.
  • The low-light camera quality is mediocre.
  • No Night Mode for ultrawide camera.
  • EIS works only on 1080p resolution.

4. An incredible budget phone: Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”4″]

The Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC is a surprising phone due to its impressive specifications for a device in its price range. The device has a lot of processing power, with gaming performance particularly impressing us, and a long-lasting battery, which we found to be sufficient for two days of moderate use – a rarity among smartphones.

It also has a 120Hz display, which we described as the “most advanced display at a price,” and it’s available at a meager price. If you purchase this item, you are unquestionably receiving more value than what you paid.

Not everyone will appreciate a few peculiarities, such as the phone’s enormous size and inferior cameras compared to similarly priced competitors. However, this is still worthwhile, as it is currently the best budget phone.

  • Resolution: 1080 x 2400
  • CPU: Snapdragon 732G
  • RAM: 6GB
  • Storage: 64GB/128GB
  • Rear camera: 64MP (wide) + 13MP (ultrawide, 119-degree) + 2MP (macro) + 2MP (depth)
  • Front camera: 32MP
  • Large IPS LCD screen with small notch, great contrast, HDR10, 120Hz
  • Unique design, IP53-certified for dust and splash resistance
  • Chart-topping battery life, fast charging
  • Among the fastest mid-rangers on the market
  • Good photo and video quality
  • MIUI 12 is feature-rich, smooth and stutter-free
  • The fan-favorite 3.5mm jack, FM radio, IR blaster, microSD, and stereo speakers are all here
  • Attractive launch price
  • Not the best pixel response time leading to ghosting in 120Hz
  • Unimpressive low-light camera quality

5. The best small Xiaomi phone: Xiaomi 12

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”5″]

The Xiaomi 12 is the company’s primary flagship device for 2022, sitting below the Pro model you’ve already read about further up this list. As such, it is not surprising that this Xiaomi phone ranks among the best.

This cute small phone with a petite frame makes it comfortable to hold and easy to transport. It also has a sleek, silky finish that is a delight to touch. As you can probably tell, we’re big fans of the design and how it feels in our hands. The Xiaomi 12 features a 50MP primary camera, a powerful chipset, relatively quick charging, and a powerful battery.

This phone is relatively low on this list because it offers less value for money than other Xiaomi mobiles. Still, it’s a good phone, although your dollar won’t go as far as with the Pro.

  • Screen size: 6.28-inch
  • CPU: Snapdragon 8 Gen 1
  • RAM: 8GB/12GB
  • Storage: 128GB/256GB
  • Rear camera: 50MP (wide) + 13MP (ultrawide, 123-degree) + 5MP (telemacro)
  • Front camera: 32MP
  • Bright, 120Hz curved OLED.
  • Excellent ergonomics, one of the few premium compact phones.
  • Awesome camera performance.
  • Blazing-fast wired and wireless charging supports reverse wireless too.
  • Speaker quality without Dolby Atmos is good.
  • Highly customizable and mature MIUI 13 with Android 12
  • Battery life is quite underwhelming.
  • No ingress protection.
  • No telephoto camera or good enough zoom solution.
  • Poor sustained performance.
  • Stereo speakers are imbalanced, Dolby Atmos makes quality even worse.

6. A mid-range take on the Xiaomi Mi 11: Xiaomi 11T PRO 5G

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”6″]

The Xiaomi 11T Pro is a mid-range variant of the Mi 11 and the Mi 10T Pro’s successor by one year. Notably, it was the first phone to drop the ‘Mi’ branding that the company had previously used.

This is an excellent mid-range smartphone with a potent processor, attractive display, useful camera array, and intuitive fingerprint scanner. If you liked the design of the Xiaomi Mi 11, you would find many of the same features here, such as the 5MP telephoto lens and numerous camera modes.

However, there were a few issues with the phone; its fingerprint sensor, although easy to use, was a bit too high for some individuals to reach. The primary problem, however, was that it heated up very rapidly, which diminished its processing power. Overall, this is a fantastic Xiaomi phone, and if you’re in the market for a new mid-range device, you should check it out.

  • Screen size: 6.67-inch
  • CPU: Snapdragon 888
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Storage: 128GB/256GB
  • Rear camera: 108MP (wide) + 8MP (ultrawide, 120-degree) + 5MP (telemacro)
  • Front camera: 16MP
  • Stunning display
  • 120W fast charging
  • Fantastic stereo speakers
  • 108MP sensor clicks good photos
  • Too bulky
  • No headphone jack
  • Throttles quite a bit

7. A great value Xiaomi phone: Xiaomi Poco F3

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”7″]

The Poco F3 is a member of the third generation of Xiaomi’s Pocophone sub-brand, which became wildly popular between 2020 and 2021. The phone’s superior display and performance make it ideal for streaming, gaming, and social media browsing. We particularly liked its display, which has a maximum brightness of 1,300 nits and a 120Hz refresh rate for fluid scrolling.

We also found it to be one of the most affordable gaming phones, with a near-flagship performance at a fraction of the cost. Additionally, it looks good and feels well-constructed. As a low-priced phone, the camera quality is subpar, and wireless charging is unavailable, but not everyone requires these features.

  • Screen size: 6.67-inch
  • CPU: Snapdragon 870
  • RAM: 6/8GB
  • Storage: 128GB/256GB
  • Rear camera: 48MP (wide) + 8MP (ultrawide, 119-degree) + 5MP (macro)
  • Front camera: 20MP
  • Stunning design with a premium build.
  • Excellent AMOLED screen, 120Hz refresh rate.
  • Outstanding battery life, fast to charge, too.
  • Class-leading performance, 5G connectivity.
  • Good stereo speakers.
  • Good daylight photo and video quality.
  • Latest Android and MIUI.
  • Competitive price.
  • No jack, no microSD, no FM radio.
  • Ultra-wide cameras are mediocre in both photos and videos.

8. Affordable with a good display: Xiaomi Redmi Note 11

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”8″]

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 lacks 5G and other superior characteristics. However, it does the job of providing a great display and battery life without breaking the bank. Its build quality is also quite impressive for the price, as it is relatively slim for a low-cost phone and has a beautiful design.

Its 6.43-inch AMOLED display offers vibrant colors without sacrificing battery life; in our tests, the phone lasted more than a day. The only significant flaw is that the camera quality is subpar. In adequate lighting, they’re fine, but they’ll struggle everywhere else.

Even though the Redmi Note 11 is not the most powerful smartphone available, we discovered that it ran most apps and games without a hitch. However, for this price, all of these flaws are entirely forgivable.

  • Screen size: 6.43-inch
  • CPU: Snapdragon 680
  • RAM: 4GB/6GB
  • Storage: 64GB/128GB
  • Rear camera: 50MP (wide) + 8MP (ultrawide, 118-degree) + 2MP (macro) + 2MP (depth)
  • Front camera: 13MP
  • Stylish dual-glass design with a matte finish and a premium look, IP53-rated.
  • Excellent AMOLED screen, bright, 90Hz, great color accuracy.
  • Great battery life with fast 33W charging.
  • Loud stereo speakers, good audio.
  • 3.5mm jack, FM Radio, NFC, IR blaster, microSD slot.
  • Solid if unimpressive main camera performance. Great portraits and macro shots.
  • MIUI 13 implementation is lean on new features and based on the old Android 11.
  • The Snapdragon 680 is lacking in performance, particularly in the GPU department.
  • Disappointing ultrawide camera.
  • Underwhelming Night mode, and it's only available on the main cam.
  • No 4K video capture with any camera.

9. A great older Xiaomi phone: Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”9″]

The Xiaomi Mi 10T series were late-2020 additions to the Mi 10 phones, with the Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro being a great budget flagship – it has the same primary camera, software, and processing power as the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro, but has a lower quality design and overall camera setup to keep the price down.

A few great features on this phone are absent from the Mi 10 series, including a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, 144Hz display, and – less usefully – an enormous camera bump. We were particularly impressed by the phone’s processing power and primary camera, inherited from more expensive phones. However, we found it on the large side, and the back attracts an alarming number of fingerprints.

  • Screen size: 6.67-inch
  • CPU: Snapdragon 865
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Storage: 128GB/256GB
  • Rear camera: 108MP (wide) + 13MP (ultrawide, 123-degree) + 5MP (macro)
  • Front camera: 20MP
  • One of the best LCDs in the game with 144Hz refresh rate.
  • Solid build quality.
  • Long battery life and fast charging.
  • Excellent main camera performance, a macro camera that makes sense.
  • Stereo speakers setup.
  • Good price/performance ratio.
  • Mature, feature-rich and smart MIUI 12 with granular control over refresh rate.
  • IR blaster, notification LED and 8GB/128GB base memory configuration.
  • The ultra-wide camera isn't up to the task, a true telephoto camera would have been great.
  • An OLED panel, even with a lower refresh rate, is preferred by a lot of users.

10. The best Xiaomi phone for flagship excess: Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”10″]

The fact that Xiaomi’s 2021 superphone, the Mi 11 Ultra, appears last on this list suggests that it has a few flaws. The large camera bump is extremely obstructive and prohibitively expensive, and we discovered it had a problem with overheating that negatively impacted performance.

In our tests, the battery was fully charged in less than half an hour, despite the issues above. In addition, it utilizes the high-end Snapdragon 888 chipset, so performance is impressive when it’s not overheating, the cameras are excellent, and the display looks incredible.

A second 1.1-inch display is located on the back and can be used as a viewfinder for taking selfies with the rear cameras, among other functions. Overall, we found this to be very hit-or-miss, but it’s not entirely useless and something you won’t find elsewhere.

  • Screen size: 6.81-inch
  • CPU: Snapdragon 888
  • RAM: 12GB
  • Storage: 256GB
  • Rear camera: 50MP (wide) + 48MP (ultrawide, 128-degree) + 48MP (telephoto, 5x optical)
  • Front camera: 20MP
  • Gorgeous display
  • Excellent cameras
  • Smooth performer
  • Surreal audio experience
  • Pricey
  • Camera bump is ginormous
  • Bulky
  • Telephoto lens could do with some tweaks

How to choose the best Xiaomi phone for you

Xiaomi manufactures a variety of handsets, so you’ll almost certainly be satisfied with at least one, but there are several factors to consider when selecting.

The first consideration is your budget; if you spend more, you’ll receive more consistently high-end specifications, so if you’re spending less, you’ll need to determine what you can do without.

Power is one of the most important specifications, especially if you intend to play numerous games on your phone. If smartphone photography is essential to you, you should prioritize a device with a good camera, and everyone could benefit from a device with long battery life. However, if the phone charges quickly, this could partially compensate for the shorter battery life.

Screen size is more subjective; some people prefer a large screen because it provides more space for interacting with apps and is better for watching videos. However, this makes the phone larger, heavier, and more challenging to use with one hand. Despite screen size, a high resolution and refresh rate can be advantageous.

Consider which of these factors is most important to you and choose accordingly. Or you can opt for a flagship product that could meet all requirements – for a price.

Things to consider before buying a Xiaomi phone

There are numerous factors to consider when purchasing a phone. However, certain factors distinguish a mid-range phone from an expensive one. The features listed below are some of the most important aspects to consider when purchasing a phone.

The first consideration is the processor. A phone’s or any electronic device’s processor is essentially its brain, like a computer’s—the faster and more up to date the processor, the quicker the phone. Speed is crucial for those who enjoy playing games or watching media on their phones.

RAM The more RAM a computer has, the more data it can store and the quicker it can switch between applications. Most mobile devices will have between two and six gigabytes of RAM.

RAM and the processor are interdependent. If you have excessive RAM, your processor may be unable to handle it. Imagine a powerful engine in a vehicle that is rusted and breaking down. Yes, you have a powerful engine, but it won’t get you very far if your vehicle can’t handle it.

Introducing cameras on mobile phones is one of the most transformative events of the 21st century. It has facilitated the growth of companies such as Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok and made photography more accessible.

Presently, most smartphones have multiple rear and front cameras, which reduces the available space for other technologies and raises the manufacturing cost. Multiple cameras on a single device provide superior quality and versatility. For instance, a single camera that must perform all functions will not be as effective as separate telephoto and wide-angle cameras. Additionally, a single camera may require digital zoom, significantly degrading image quality.

Suppose you want to use your phone as a replacement for a camera. In that case, you should look for a device with multiple cameras with varying fields of view, preferably including both telephoto and wide-angle lenses. Additionally, you’ll want a high megapixel count for superior quality.

Gone are the days when a single phone charge could last for weeks. Today, you are fortunate if you can go an entire day without charging your phone. Not all mobile phone batteries are created equal and paying attention to battery specifications is advantageous.

The capacity of a battery is measured in milliampere hours (mAh). Higher numbers indicate more extended battery life. A 3000 mAH battery, for instance, can last approximately 10 hours. However, remember that the battery will drain faster the more you use your phone. Additionally, a superior processor and operating system will reduce battery consumption.

Although this is an essential feature of a phone, it may not be the world’s end. If you always want power, you can carry a power bank for portable charging when you are not near an outlet. This means that a small battery in a phone is not as bad as it may seem.

The more storage a phone has, the more information it can store. Ironically, however, physical space on the phone is causing many manufacturers to limit the amount of storage available. They may also attempt to sell you their cloud storage services.

The more storage a phone has, the more expensive it will be, so you must consider its intended use. Storage space is less critical if you only use your phone for calls and web browsing. But if you use it for work, take many photos, or intend to download many apps and games, you will require more storage. 64GB is usually sufficient for most people, but if you have more, you’ll be able to use your phone without restrictions. In addition, some manufacturers will give you more RAM when you purchase a smartphone with more storage, resulting in a faster device.

In the 1990s, mobile phones were as large as bricks, while in the 2000s, they were as small as credit cards. There is a fine line these days, especially as smartphones require more power for the technology they contain. To reduce the thickness of mobile phones, manufacturers enlarge the display, providing more screen space. The average screen size of Xiaomi phones is approximately 6.5 inches, which is a comfortable size for holding in your hand and carrying in your pocket.

Regarding screen quality, refresh rate is an essential factor to consider. If you plan to use your phone to watch media or play games, a higher refresh rate will provide you with more fluid and distinct images. In addition, premium phones allow you to adjust the display to conserve battery life or improve your eyesight.

Xiaomi phone FAQs

The Xiaomi 12 is the best example, as it is a portable flagship like the Samsung Galaxy S22.

Samsung and Xiaomi flagships have minor distinctions, such as Xiaomi’s faster charging and Samsung’s superior camera array, so your choice will depend on your needs.

This is also true for inexpensive phones. While Samsung’s Galaxy A phones offer budget-friendly displays, we believe Poco devices are more powerful, and Redmi handsets are superior for photography.

We’ve been big fans of Xiaomi phones ever since the brand began selling them in the west, and if you’re in the market for a new phone, we’d highly recommend looking at what they offer.

As with all brands, Xiaomi has both misses and hits, and not all its products are excellent. There are occasionally duds in the flagship line, with handsets that are too expensive for their good, or in the lower-end models, with features that do not function properly.

However, on this list of the best Xiaomi smartphones, you’ll undoubtedly find the best models we’ve evaluated.

Yes, all Xiaomi phones come preloaded with Google Mobile Services, including Maps, Pay, the Play Store, and more. This also means that you can download many additional applications; the Android experience here is satisfactory.

Huawei and Apple are the only companies that sell phones without the Play Store, and Apple is okay because it has the App Store.

However, even Android phones do not use Google apps in China, where consumers prefer other options. Therefore, if you import a Xiaomi phone from China, you may find that it lacks Google Mobile Services; however, this list only includes devices available in the West, so you have nothing to worry about.

All Xiaomi smartphones run Android with the company’s MIUI Android skin installed.

Honestly, MIUI isn’t our favorite version of Android – it’s a little cluttered and complicated – but you can expect a relatively smooth and dependable experience with plenty of customization options and frequent updates.

The Xiaomi team has considered how end users will utilize its smartphones. The specs and technology within each phone, especially the flagship phones, are exceptional and compete with market leaders such as Samsung and Apple at a fraction of the price. If you are looking for a phone with high-end specifications, a beautiful design, and fantastic features but have a limited budget, the Xiaomi phones are the best option.
