12 Best USB-C Laptops: Reviews And Guides

Despite the name Universal Serial Bus, USB ports have only sometimes been so ubiquitous. USB Type-C was the first step toward a genuinely universal connector, with its ability to accommodate various device sizes and capabilities. Almost all non-Apple smartphones today include a USB Type-C port for charging, but what about your laptop? It makes perfect sense to want a laptop that supports USB-C charging, as one of the significant benefits of a universal port is that you can use one charger for all your devices.

12 Best USB-C Laptops Reviews

In this list, we have done precisely this. We’ve compiled a list of the best available laptops with a USB Type-C port for charging and preferably include a USB Type-C charger. Because your phone’s USB charger is likely too slow to charge your laptop, it may be more convenient to use a laptop charger for all your devices rather than a phone charger. Most high-end laptops now support USB charging, so you have many options here. Without further ado, the following is our list.

1. Best overall: Dell XPS 13 9310

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”1″]

The XDA award for the best ultrabook of 2021 went to the Dell XPS 13 9310, which shouldn’t come as a surprise. This ultra-compact yet robust and capable laptop features a magnificent display, design, and USB-C charging.

The Dell XPS 13 features 11th-generation Intel Core processors, up to a Core i7-1195G7. This is Intel’s most potent 15W processor, with four cores, eight threads, and up to 5GHz boost speeds. Additionally, it has Intel Iris Xe graphics so that you can run some light GPU-intensive applications out of the box. You can supplement this with up to 32GB of RAM and a large 2TB SSD, so you’re not lacking in performance or storage space. The XPS 13 also features a fantastic 13.4-inch display with a 16:10 aspect ratio. The base configuration is a 13-inch laptop with a Full HD+ (1920 x 1200) display, which is already relatively sharp. If you want more, however, you can upgrade to a stunning 3.5K (3,456 x 2,160) OLED panel, which offers incredible sharpness, excellent contrast ratios, and vibrant colors. There is an Ultra HD+ (3840 x 2400) option that is even sharper and covers 100% of Adobe RGB if you require the highest resolution and perform color-sensitive work. The OLED and UHD+ options support touch input as well.

The webcam is the XPS 13’s (and the rest of the XPS family’s) most significant flaw. To keep bezels as small as possible, Dell created a 720p camera with a 2.25mm diameter. Even compared to other 720p cameras, the image quality is not very good. If this is important to you, consider reviewing our list of the best webcams. There is also no facial recognition for Windows Hello, but a fingerprint sensor is included if you want an easy way to unlock your PC.

  • Nice 16:10 display
  • Best-in-class performance and integrated graphics
  • Drop-dead gorgeous design
  • Good battery life
  • Springy, comfortable keyboard
  • Limited port selection
  • Sluggish SSD compared to rivals
  • Not-great webcam with no privacy shutter
  • Not as powerful as MacBook Air

2. Best convertible with USB-C charging: Surface Laptop Studio

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”2″]

Microsoft’s Surface Laptop Studio is a brand-new product for 2016, but it has quickly risen to the top of our list of favorite laptops. This convertible is one of the most incredible things I’ve seen due to its uniqueness, full specifications, and excellent design.

Beginning with performance, the Surface Laptop Studio is the most potent Surface to date, and it includes Intel’s new H35-series processors, up to a Core i7-11370H. Due to its higher power rating, this 35W processor with four cores, eight threads, and clock speeds up to 4.8GHz is also more potent than a typical laptop. It also includes Intel Iris Xe graphics, but if you need more power, the Core i7 version of this laptop has an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti graphics card, allowing you to play games and perform more demanding tasks. Aside from that, the Surface Laptop Studio can be configured with up to 32GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD, making it a mighty machine overall.

The Surface Laptop Studio is genuinely distinguished by its design. It is a convertible but does not rotate on a single hinge a full 360 degrees. Instead, it has a second hinge beyond the display, which you can use to bring the screen closer to you (as seen in the image above). You can then fold the display down over the keyboard base to convert it into a canvas for note-taking or artistic work. It is genuinely cool and easier to change positions than a conventional convertible. Regarding portability, the Surface Laptop Studio has a thickness of 18.94mm and a starting weight of 3.87 lbs. It is lightweight for its internal specifications but does not stand out in this regard.

Regarding ports, the Surface Laptop Studio supports USB Type-C charging, but it is not included. The Surface Connect port is the default charging port, but two Thunderbolt 4 ports are available if desired. However, you may need to purchase a high-power charger, exceptionally if you choose the Core i7 model. In addition to these three ports, there is a headphone jack on the Surface Laptop Studio; however, the inclusion of Thunderbolt makes up for the lack of port variety.

  • The tablet positioning on this laptop is a lot more convenient than on a typical two-in-one
  • Surprisingly detailed speakers
  • First-class stylus experience
  • A great 120Hz screen with Dolby Vision
  • Groundbreaking haptic touchpad
  • Robust digital stylus support, including magnetic holder
  • Long battery life
  • Runs quiet
  • Thunderbolt 4
  • Stylus costs extra
  • Runs hot for very little power boost
  • Tops out with 35W quad-core CPUs
  • No AMD CPU option
  • Slim Pen 2 doesn't come included
  • Upgrading SSD on your own voids warranty
  • Charger is underpowered
  • Thick chassis
  • Limited ports

3. Also great: HP Spectre x360 14

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”3″]

We may adore the design of the Surface Laptop Studio, but if you prefer traditional convertibles, we have you covered as well. The HP Spectre x360 14 is one of the most recent additions to HP’s lineup, and it is the best member of the family.

Intel’s 11th-generation Core processors power the HP SPectre x360 to a Core i7-1165G7 with four cores, eight threads, and up to 4.7GHz boost speeds. This 15W processor is comparable to the previously mentioned Dell XPS 13, albeit slightly slower, and it also includes Intel Iris Xe graphics. In addition, the Sectre x360 14 can be configured with up to 16GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD, providing ample storage and sufficient memory to multitask without difficulty.

The HP Spectre lineup is one of the most distinctive in terms of aesthetics, and the Spectre x360 14 is no exception. This laptop’s “nightfall black” and “Poseidon blue” color options feature a two-tone design. The laptop’s edges and hinges are accented with copper (in the black model) or gold (in the blue model), giving it a significantly more upscale appearance. You can also purchase the natural silver version if you prefer something more subdued. The laptop’s iconic angular edges and rounded corners below the display contribute to its unique appearance. Regarding portability, the Spectre x360 14 weighs 2.95 pounds and has a thickness of just over 17 millimeters.

The HP Spectre x360 has two charging-capable Thunderbolt 4/USB-C ports, and while they’re both on the same side, one of them is in one of the cut-off corners, making it more accessible from both sides. A USB Type-A port for legacy peripherals, a headphone jack, and a microSD card reader are also included. This covers most of the essentials for a laptop of this size but lacks a standard display output, so you may need an adapter to connect external monitors.

  • Beautiful design
  • 3:2 display with OLED and 1,000-nit options
  • Handy shortcut keys and utility software
  • Rechargeable pen and carrying sleeve in box
  • USB-A, dual Thunderbolt 4 ports
  • >95 percent sRGB coverage standard
  • Exceptional amped quad-speakers
  • Intel 11th Gen delivers long battery life, instant-on
  • Long battery life
  • High price
  • Touchpad is a bit stiff
  • No HDMI port
  • No LTE mobile broadband option
  • RAM and WLAN not user upgradeable
  • Fingerprint reader replaces Ctrl key

4. Best business laptop with USB-C charging: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 9

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”4″]

The ThinkPad X1 Carbon is the most iconic of Lenovo’s ThinkPad business laptops. It’s one of the older laptops in the lineup, but Lenovo has done a fantastic job modernizing it while retaining the ThinkPad’s signature features.

Starting with performance, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 9 features Intel Core i7-1185G7 vPro processors from the 11th generation of 15W processors. Intel vPro processors are generally faster than non-vPro processors and include additional security features for businesses. This one is a quad-core, eight-thread model with up to 4.8GHz boost speeds and Iris Xe graphics. In addition, it can be configured with up to 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, providing excellent performance and storage space for your files.

There are two Thunderbolt 4/USB-C connections with charging support (though they are on the same side), two USB Type-A ports (3.2 Gen 1), HDMI 2.0, and a headphone jack. As with many business laptops, you can have LTE or 5G connectivity, which adds a nano-SIM card slot. With cellular network support, you can stay connected to the internet no matter where you are, which can be extremely useful.

The ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 9 nails all the fundamentals of a business laptop, including excellent performance, a classic design, a tall display, and an abundance of ports. You can purchase it at Best Buy, but additional configurations are available on Lenovo’s website.

  • Flawless design and engineering
  • World-class keyboard
  • HDMI and USB-A ports, as well as Thunderbolt 4
  • Available 4G or 5G mobile broadband
  • Clever, sanitizing-friendly Quick Clean function
  • Excellent battery life
  • Expensive
  • No OLED screen option
  • No SD or microSD card slot

5. Best gaming laptop with USB-C charging: ASUS ROG Flow X13

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”5″]

While technically, many gaming laptops support USB-C charging, their power consumption typically far exceeds the power that USB Power Delivery helps (until the recent announcement of 240W USB charging, at least). However, the ASUS ROG Flow X13 is an exception, as most gaming laptops need to fit better on this list.

In terms of performance, the ASUS ROG Flow X13 is inferior to other gaming laptops. But that in no way implies that it is slow. It comes with AMD’s 35W Ryzen processors, up to an 8-core, 16-thread Ryzen 9 5980HS, with boost speeds of up to 4.8GHz. This is one of the fastest laptop processors, but it consumes less energy than others. This is paired with up to a 35W-rated NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti graphics card, allowing you to play most modern games at playable frame rates, though this will vary from game to game. Aside from that, you receive up to 32GB of RAM (which is not upgradable) and a 1TB SSD, giving you ample space for games and files.

Both ROG Flow X13’s USB Type-c (3.2 Gen 2 ports) ports can charge the laptop and are located on opposite sides of the device. The charger can be up to 100W, so it should be able to charge the laptop even when it is under heavy load. One USB Type-A port (3.2 Gen 2), HDMI 2.0b, and a headphone jack are also included. If you purchase an external GPU, one of the USB Type-C ports is also part of the ROG Xg mobile interface for connecting the GPU. Naturally, Thunderbolt support is unavailable because AMD powers this laptop, but the configuration is still solid.

This gaming laptop is for those who don’t require the most performance, but it’s still an excellent option. It can run nearly every modern game and is perfect for productivity and other tasks. This is the only laptop on this list that I own, and I strongly endorse it.

  • One of the cheapest laptops with a 120Hz display.
  • Display is amazing
  • Great CPU performance
  • Support for touch screen is a boon
  • Has fairly decent Keyboard
  • Battery life is disappointing.
  • The gaming performance isn't great
  • Keyboard and Trackpad could have been better

6. Best 17-inch laptop with USB-C charging: LG gram 17

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”6″]

Fans of larger laptops can sometimes find it challenging to locate a thin and lightweight model, but the LG gram 17 is ideal for them. It is a capable laptop with excellent battery life, solid performance, and a design that is surprisingly lightweight.

The LG gram also includes two Thunderbolt 4/USB-C ports with charging support (unfortunately, both on the same side), two USB Type-A (3.2 Gen 2) ports, HDMI, a headphone jack, and a microSD card reader.

That meets virtually all of your basic requirements, and it’s a solid setup to boot. Although it would be preferable if the charging ports were on opposite sides, this is a minor point. The LG gram 17 is not the most powerful 17-inch laptop on the market, but its portability is its primary focus. It continues to provide a premium experience and is portable.

  • Light as a feather (2.98lbs/1.35kg)
  • Big, high-quality display
  • Fast performer
  • Refined port layout
  • Fans run very quietly
  • Seriously long battery life
  • Not a touchscreen
  • Keyboard layout problems persist
  • Slightly spongy keyboard
  • McAffee pop-ups
  • Trackpad has palm rejection issues
  • Webcam not Windows Hello compatible
  • No HDR or WCG

7. Best tablet: Surface Pro 8

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”7″]

There are few excellent Windows tablets on the market, but those that exist are excellent. Nevertheless, the Surface Pro 8 distinguishes itself from the competition by including, for the first time, Thunderbolt support in addition to its high-end specifications and excellent display.

The Surface Pro 8’s performance is comparable to other Ultrabook’s, beginning with 11th-generation Intel Core processors and ending with a Core i7-1185G7. As previously mentioned, this is a quad-core, eight-thread processor with a boost frequency of up to 4.8GHz and Iris Xe graphics for light GPU tasks. The Surface Pro 8 can be configured with up to 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, so it does not fall short simply because it is a tablet.

The Surface Pro 8 has the same issue with ports as most Surface devices. It has two Thunderbolt 4/USB-C ports with charging support, but the Surface Connect port and the included charger are the default charging method. Besides a 3.5mm headphone jack, these are the only ports on this tablet, so you have limited options unless you purchase a dock or adapter. This is acceptable for a tablet but needs to be improved as a PC.

Despite its flaws, the Surface Pro 8 is a great Windows tablet with high-end specifications, an excellent display, and excellent cameras, making it ideal for everything from media consumption to work.

  • Gorgeous new design
  • Amazing performance
  • Larger 13" display
  • Two Thunderbolt 4 ports
  • SSD is easily accessible
  • 120 Hz display makes for smoother writing and drawing
  • Stylus has a haptic motor and keyboard garage
  • Tailor-made for Windows 11
  • Supports external devices
  • More expensive
  • No more USB Type-A
  • Longer battery life
  • Slim Pen 2 and Signature keyboard sold separately

8. Best budget laptop with USB-C charging: HP Pavilion Aero

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”8″]

Lastly, what if you want an affordable laptop that supports USB-C charging that is of high quality? The HP Pavilion Aero may be the solution, given that it is one of the best budget laptops available. It does not include a USB Type-C charger but supports them.

The HP Pavilion Aero is equipped with AMD’s Ryzen 5000 series processors, beginning with a Ryzen 5 5600U in its base configuration. This is a 6-core, 12-thread processor with a maximum boost speed of 4.2GHz, so performance is not lacking. However, you can upgrade to a Ryzen 7 if you have the funds. The base model also includes 8GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD storage, which is a solid combination for an affordable laptop, though you can upgrade to 16GB and 1TB, respectively, based on your budget.

The HP Pavilion Aero’s port selection includes one USB-C port (3.2 Gen 2) with charging support, two USB Type-A ports (3.2 Gen 1), HDMI, a headphone jack, and a microSD card reader. The default charger uses a proprietary barrel port, but you can use a robust USB-C charging brick with this laptop if you already own one.

The HP Pavilion Aero was a fantastic mainstream laptop when it launched for $750, but now that it’s frequently heavily discounted (at the time of writing, it costs $550), it’s a steal. We strongly suggest this laptop if you are on a tight budget and desire a great experience.

  • Bright, colorful display
  • Clicky keyboard feels satisfying
  • Well-priced
  • Good performance
  • Lightweight
  • Small deck
  • No microSD card slot

9. Best 2-In-1 Option: Microsoft Surface Book 3

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”9″]

You may believe that 2-in-1s lack power, but you are mistaken because the Microsoft Surface Book 3 is packed with power and includes everything you need, including USB-C ports. This 2-in-1 laptop is powered by a Core i7 processor and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX graphics card, so it can easily handle any demanding task you throw at it.

It has 16GB RAM to ensure that you can maximize power and accomplish more simultaneously, and the 256GB SSD storage makes this machine boot up quickly.

This laptop will satisfy in terms of battery life, as it has a 17-hour battery life—more than sufficient to work on for free.

This is one of the quickest laptops that still feels like a tablet, and it has not one but three USB-C ports.

  • Solid performance
  • Will get Windows 11
  • Very good battery life
  • Detachable screen with 3:2 aspect ratio
  • Extremely pricey
  • No Thunderbolt 3 support
  • Design is getting dated

10. Sleek Gaming Laptop: Razer Blade Stealth 13

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”10″]

Razer is a well-known gaming brand; for a good reason; this Razer Blade Stealth 13 is packed with power and sleek design; what more could you want?

A Core i7 processor and an NVIDIA GeForce MX150 graphics card power this gaming laptop. Its primary purpose is gaming, so you can expect to play some highly challenging titles.

This laptop’s aluminum body and Chroma RGB lighting will appeal to aesthetic enthusiasts, as will its feel and appearance. If you can afford the price, this laptop is the best option if you are a gamer.

Typically, gaming laptops have a shorter battery life, but this one has a 13-hour battery life, depending on usage and application usage.

This laptop has Thunderbolt 3, USB-C, USB-A, a Windows Hello infrared camera, and dual array microphones.

  • Premium, compact design
  • Glass mouse pad is excellent
  • USB Type-A and -C ports (two of each)
  • Optional GTX graphics
  • Gaming chops, 120Hz display are unique at its screen size
  • Charge via either USB-C port on either side
  • Performance won't match larger gaming laptops
  • Awkward keyboard layout
  • Somewhat expensive
  • Speakers cause the chassis to vibrate, resulting in distortion
  • Touchscreen only available on the 4k display

11. The Lightest Option: LG Gram

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”11″]

Those who prefer their laptops to be lightweight but still packed with power will adore this machine, which has a tiny body. Inside a very slim chassis is a powerful Core i5 processor with 8GB of RAM, which is a decent configuration for light to medium computing tasks if you do not intend to perform graphics-intensive work.

This laptop’s battery can last up to 20 hours on a single charge, making it an excellent choice for those who work in coffee shops.

It also has all the necessary ports, including a TYPE-C connection that allows faster data transfer and smoother HD video playback.

Therefore, if portability and future-proofing are priorities, this laptop may be the best option.

  • Superb 16in 16:10 display
  • Good performance and battery life
  • Well-rounded ports
  • Very thin
  • No touchscreen
  • So-so webcam
  • Lid and keyboard deck are too bendy
  • Lacks performance upgrades

12. For Business People: Lenovo Yoga C940

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”12″]

You want to maintain the machine’s speed and dependability as a businessperson. You can rely on this fully equipped laptop for your work and business computing needs.

This laptop’s 4K display is essential when presenting to investors or potential buyers, and having a high-quality display is a plus.

This laptop is powered by the most recent Core i7 processor and 16GB of RAM so you can rely on it in terms of performance and display.

This laptop is future-proof because it features two USB-C ports, allowing you to connect all your USB-C accessories.

As the name implies, this laptop is capable of yoga. It can be bent to a full 360 degrees and used as a tablet with the stylus pen included in the package.

Although expensive, the hardware and configuration justify the cost.

  • Good CPU and GPU performance
  • Long battery life
  • 4K screen
  • Active pen with integrated garage
  • Display could be better calibrated out of the box
  • Short on ports and connectors
  • Soldered RAM
  • Only 1x M.2 storage slot
  • Premium price tag

Picking The Best USB-C Laptops In 2023

USB-C Availability

Not all USB-Cs are identical; they may have the same cables, but they are compatible with many external peripherals, including USB drives, webcams, and external GPUs. Although not all USB-C ports support external GPUs, as this requires Thunderbolt 3 with four PCIe lanes, select a laptop with the appropriate USB-C port.

On this list, we’ve selected various categories of laptops with USB-C ports, some with Thunderbolt 3, and others without, and we’ve indicated this on each laptop. You can choose from various laptops, ranging from hybrids to the most cost-effective ones.

There are USB-C ports for quick charging, external GPUs, and USB drives with a faster transfer rate.

Laptop Configuration

The overall power of a laptop is essential; if USB-C lacks power, what can it be used for? Every laptop on this list has a specific processor speed, and we chose only the best in that category. If you want a future-proof laptop, look for a Core i5 or higher, and we recommend at least 8GB of RAM for multitasking.

Storage must be 128GB and SSD, as they are significantly faster than HDD or dual storage with SSD and HDD. Choose a laptop with a dedicated GPU for a fluid user experience if you engage in graphics-intensive tasks; integrated graphics are sufficient for day-to-day tasks and should suffice for most games.

Displays on laptops are typically overlooked, but you should at least consider 1080p resolution. Choose a 3k to 4k resolution if you need to see every detail, while the Retina display is one of the most beautiful.

Duration of Battery Life

The battery life is an important consideration when purchasing a laptop; portability is already a given, so the amount of time it can be used without being charged is also crucial. What is portability if it cannot be used for an extended period?

The more powerful a laptop is, the faster its battery depletes, which is the case with all laptops listed here. The battery life of a laptop is also affected by how it is used; we recommend purchasing a laptop with an 8–14-hour battery life.

Though it depends on the laptop’s power and the user’s usage, choosing a laptop with long battery life is still advantageous because these laptops have undergone battery tests and are their base numbers. At the very least, you were aware of the laptop’s battery life.

Prior versions of USB could only handle a limited amount of power, which is why laptop chargers have typically retained their larger, bulkier cables. USB-C changed that. This type of connection now provides enough power to juice up most laptops (particularly the Type-C 3.0 version).

To ensure you can charge a range of devices, it’s best to go with 2A ports at minimum. High-power USB ports—2.4A to 5A—are available. 2.1A ports are normally sufficient, but a high-powered port will charge your device quicker.

Laptops require DC power, so there’s no need to check what Hz your laptop requires. The charger will convert AC to DC, removing the frequency (Hz).

The charger isn’t powerful enough to charge your PC. The charger isn’t connected to a charging port on your PC. The charging cable doesn’t meet the power requirements for the charger or PC. Dust or dirt inside the USB port on your device might be preventing the charger from being inserted correctly.

So long as the male plug and female ports line up, you can plug it in for sharing power or data. It’s also smaller than the ubiquitous rectangular USB Type-A, allowing it to be used on devices big and small, from phones to laptops.

Please make sure your computer has been followed the installation documentation from the USB Type-C device manufacturer. Check if there is any type of damage caused on the USB Type-C cable or the USB Type-C ports on the computer. It may occur some USB Type-C performance problems.

Simply plug in the USB Type-C Connector to your charger, and the other end into your TUF FX505DT (15.6 in) to begin charging!

Have you selected the best item from the list? Now that you have an idea of the best USB-C laptops, it is up to you to decide what other features your next laptop should have. Remember that when purchasing a laptop, it is best to consider the factors above and your judgment.

If you think we helped you find your next laptop, please share this post with your coworkers, and if you think we missed any of the best USB-C laptops, please let us know in the comments!
