Our Top Picks

How to evaluate a OnePlus smartphone

Remember that OnePlus divides its smartphone product line into two categories when shopping for the best OnePlus smartphones. The more expensive OnePlus flagships typically cost $700 and include the company’s best features. OnePlus Nord devices are the company’s budget phones; prices are lower, and elements are reduced, but there are still a few notable features.

OnePlus used to release flagships twice a year, once in the spring and then again in the fall, as a T series model. However, OnePlus has evolved significantly in recent years, making it difficult to predict the company’s future actions. With OnePlus, you can play the waiting game forever, so choosing the phone that stands out is best.

How we test the top OnePlus smartphones

Except for the Nord 2, for which we lack the proper testing facilities in the United Kingdom, we employ the same methodology for determining the best OnePlus phones as we do for evaluating other smartphones.

We ran Geekbench 5 to measure overall performance and 3DMark Wild Life to evaluate graphics performance on each phone we could. For testing in the real world, we use Adobe Premier Rush to transcode a video while timing the duration. This test is incompatible with some devices due to app compatibility issues.

Best OnePlus Phones To Buy 2022

Remember that not every phone on the list will be available in your region, as OnePlus is launching slightly different phones in each market. We’ve attempted to review as many as possible, but some of the phones listed below are exclusive to specific regions.

The following is a list of the best OnePlus smartphones currently available.

1. Best Overall: OnePlus 10 Pro

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”1″]

The OnePlus 10 Pro, as we mentioned in our review, solidifies OnePlus as a premium smartphone brand worth your time. It may not have as many advantages as other flagships on the market today, but that does not diminish the fact that it is a refined OnePlus phone. This phone’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset is one of its primary selling points. You’re probably buying a OnePlus smartphone because you prioritize good performance over anything else on the phone. Consequently, the OnePlus 10 Pro is undoubtedly a reliable device.

The OnePlus 10 Pro won’t win any awards for its design, but we believe it has more personality than the OnePlus 9 Pro. We’ll leave it up to you to determine whether the camera is any good, as its interface appears significantly more crowded than many other mobile devices. The cameras are comparable to those of other smartphones on the market, but they fall short of the most advanced models. You can view our OnePlus 10 Pro camera review to learn more about the cameras and view samples.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset ensures that the OnePlus 10 Pro provides consistent performance without a sweat. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset offers the same level of performance as the already potent Snapdragon 888 and generates less overall heat. We suggest you check out our OnePlus 10 Pro review (linked earlier in this section) to learn more about this phone’s performance with many important details.

With a 5,000 mAh battery, the OnePlus 10 Pro also excels in battery life. Even with heavy use, it will comfortably last you a full day. It is no small feat for a smartphone to provide five hours of screen time with heavy usage, especially when the device is equipped with a large, bright, and high-refresh-rate AMOLED display. Also impressive is the 65W charger included with OnePlus 10 Pro units in the United States. This power brick should be able to fully charge the phone in 35 minutes, which is quite remarkable.

We believe that the OnePlus 10 Pro is one of the best OnePlus devices currently available on the market. It is a well-rounded product that excels in various areas to earn our recommendation. If upgrading from a OnePlus 9 or 9 Pro, we do not recommend the OnePlus 10 Pro. However, users of older OnePlus devices will find a lot to like here. You receive a superior chipset, an innovative new design, upgraded cameras, faster charging, and more. Alternatively, you can also consider purchasing the OnePlus 10T if you desire the best smartphone performance. If you don’t want to pay the total price for a OnePlus 10 Pro, it’s a classic “T” upgrade from OnePlus.

2. Alternate best pick: OnePlus 10T

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”2″]

The OnePlus 10T follows the same “T” upgrade pattern as its predecessors. It is a slightly downgraded version of the OnePlus 10 Pro, but it attempts to make up for it with several unique features. It’s difficult for us to recommend the OnePlus 10T over other flagship phones, but it’s worth considering if you’re determined to purchase a OnePlus flagship in 2022.

The OnePlus 10T degrades in display and overall construction quality areas. On the OnePlus 10T, there is only a full HD display as opposed to a quad HD panel on the OnePlus 10 Pro. In addition, the body is surrounded by a plastic frame instead of a metallic one on the 10 Pro. These may not be deal-breakers for most consumers, but they are worth considering when making a purchase. OnePlus attempts to compensate for these deficiencies by providing faster charging speeds and a new processor.

The support for 150W charging speeds is one of the highlights of the OnePlus 10T. And do you know what improves it? OnePlus includes a 150W charging brick instead of requiring you to purchase one separately. The 150W charging rate is as insanely quick as it sounds. During our review of the device, we confirmed OnePlus’ bold claim that the included charging brick can charge the OnePlus 10T from 1% to 100% in just 19 minutes. The US variants of the phone have a maximum charging speed of 125W, which, as expected, is still very fast.

This phone’s new Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset is another standout feature. This chipset is an upgraded version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor that powers the OnePlus 10 Pro. Is this an enhancement? Yes, the new chipset is unquestionably a winner, and you can find out more about it in our comparison of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The OnePlus 10T is one of the fastest smartphones currently available and offers impressive charging speeds.

The camera performance of this phone, however, is not particularly impressive. By downgrading the sensors, the OnePlus 10T suffers a significant drop in overall quality. There are declines across the board, as evidenced by our collected review samples. It is not the company’s flagship camera and certainly not the best one on the market in 2022.

The OnePlus 10T makes many of these compromises more tolerable by being inexpensive. It begins at $649, making it less expensive than the OnePlus 10 Pro, despite its recent price reduction to $799. There is a substantial increase in value for $150, so the decision comes down to personal preference. If you want the utmost performance and charging speeds, the OnePlus 10T is your device. For everything else, we recommend purchasing the OnePlus 10 Pro.

3. Also great: OnePlus 9 Pro 5G

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”3″]

The previous version of this article highlighted the OnePlus 9 Pro as the company’s most comprehensive flagship smartphone. We replaced it with the OnePlus 10 Pro, not because it was a significant upgrade, but because it did just enough to justify its purchase. Specifically, we wanted to highlight the OnePlus 9 Pro as a viable option. It is also available on Amazon for just $699, which is an excellent price considering everything it offers. It has a Snapdragon 888 SoC, 12GB RAM, 256GB storage, a 120Hz QHD+ display, 65W quick charging support, and four cameras.

If not for the Snapdragon 888 SoC, we would have kept the OnePlus 9 Pro as our top pick. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 on the OnePlus 10 Pro may not be as good as the more recent Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1, but it’s vastly superior to the Snapdragon 888 on the OnePlus 9 Pro. But if that isn’t particularly important to you and you’d instead save a few hundred dollars, the OnePlus 9 Pro is still an excellent smartphone.

Our review praised the OnePlus 9 Pro in various ways, many of which are still accurate today. The design is unquestionably one of them, and we believe many users will prefer this over the OnePlus 10 Pro’s large and bold design. The front of the device features a gorgeous AMOLED display with minimal bezels and a camera cutout. The back also looks clean, with only the camera island and minimal branding. It may not be the most premium-looking phone out there right now, but it still holds its own against flagships in 2022, which says a lot about its design.

4. Best budget OnePlus phone: OnePlus Nord N20 5G

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”4″]

It has been a few years since OnePlus’ Nord brand expanded into the mid-range and budget market segments. This new brand now has many phones, and the outlook is brighter than ever. OnePlus kicked off 2022 for this brand with the launch of the Nord N20 5G. This phone excels in a few key areas, and we believe it should be included in our list of the best OnePlus phones of 2022.

The OnePlus N20 5G is the successor to the outstanding Nord N10. It is often difficult to improve a successful smartphone, but OnePlus did a decent job with the Nord N20 5G. The first thing you’ll notice about this phone is its stunning appearance. This is one of those inexpensive phones that appears to be more expensive than its price tag suggests. Some would argue that it looks even better than several other flagship OnePlus phones, but we’ll let you decide.

The OnePlus Nord N20 5G also excels by reintroducing the headphone jack. This may not seem significant, but it is essential in the budget. It also excels in performance due to its superior hardware compared to other phones in this price range. The Snapdragon 695 chipset has 6GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB storage on the Nord N20 5G. It is not a substantial improvement over the previous Nord N10 model, but it is sufficient to keep it at the top of the budget ladder.

The fact that the OnePlus Nord N20 5G retains a microSD card slot for expandable storage may not be a massive deal for many, but we appreciate its presence. These minor modifications significantly enhance the budget user experience overall. The OnePlus Nord N20 5G features a 4,500mAh battery with support for up to 33W rapid charging via SuperVOOC technology, which is one of its best features. This makes it superior to most budget smartphones that struggle to charge quickly.

  • Single loudspeaker is unimpressive.
  • Succeeding version of OxygenOS is in limbo with ColorOS.

5. Alternate best budget pick: OnePlus Nord N200 5G

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”5″]

The OnePlus Nord N200 5G is currently the least expensive OnePlus phone in the United States. While that may not be enough to turn many heads, it is enough to earn a spot on our list of the best OnePlus phones as a budget-friendly option.

We will likely not recommend purchasing the Nord N200 5G outside the United States. However, if you’re looking for an affordable 5G phone in the United States, this is one of your best options. This particular phone’s display and battery life are among its many positive attributes. They make this phone appear considerably more expensive than its price tag suggests. However, OnePlus has sacrificed some quality to keep the price low.

Due to fewer customization options, purchasing the OnePlus Nord N200 5G requires only a few mouse clicks. The phone is only available in a single color and configuration. This device is only available in what OnePlus refers to as Blue Quantum color and 4GB+64GB configuration. Yes, 64GB of storage is insufficient today, so we’re pleased to report that this phone includes a microSD card slot for expandable storage. If you believe you’re running out of space, you can quickly add up to 1TB of storage.

Specifications
  • Processor: Qualcomm SM4350 Snapdragon 480 5G
  • RAM: 4 GB
  • Storage: 64 GB
  • Display: 6.49 inches

6. Best bang-for-the-buck phone: OnePlus 9 5G

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”6″]

The OnePlus 9 wasn’t the best OnePlus phone to buy when it came out, and that hasn’t changed in 2022. But what it brings to the table makes it a standout choice even in 2022. It was the next best choice after the OnePlus 9 Pro when it came out and remained the same if you don’t want to buy the other best OnePlus phones out there. It also costs a lot less than now, so it might be worth considering if you don’t want to go for the budget options.

As you can see, the OnePlus 9 features a familiar design that looks just as good in person as it does in renders. It features a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 at the back, but it doesn’t have an IP rating unless you buy the T-Mobile variant in the US. On the front are a 6.55-inch AMOLED panel with a punch-hole cutout and a 2,400 x 1,080 pixels resolution. With 1,100 nits of peak brightness, HDR10+ certification, and a 120Hz refresh rate, it is one of the best smartphones displays. The display of the OnePlus 9 was already a price-point winner when it debuted, and it will remain so in 2022.

7. Best phone not available in the US: OnePlus Nord 2T

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”7″]

The OnePlus Nord 2T enhances the already outstanding Nord 2. It delivers a solid mid-range phone for those who do not wish to open their wallets for a flagship device. From a dependable Dimensity 1300 chipset to a gorgeous 90Hz AMOLED display, the OnePlus Nord 2T offers several excellent features, making it one of the best Nord smartphones currently available. However, it is unavailable in the United States, so you will need to import it from markets such as the United Kingdom.

The OnePlus Nord 2T may not be the most attractive phone on the market, but it is still superior to many other mid-range devices. It is available in two colors, and we think the Jade Fog is the most attractive. The front panel features a 6.43-inch display with 90Hz refresh rate support. It is an AMOLED panel with an FHD+ resolution, which is typical for mid-range devices.

The phone is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 1300 chipset coupled with as much as 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Performance is roughly parred for a phone in this price range for the course. It is a dependable chipset for your day-to-day tasks and is on par with several flagship chips currently available. The Nord 2T is a quick and fluid device capable of running games such as PUBG Mobile and COD Mobile with respectable graphics settings.

8. Solid performance at a good price: OnePlus Nord 2

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”8″]

The OnePlus Nord 2 lacks global availability and a certain amount of aesthetic appeal, but it packs a punch where it matters.

With a 6.43-inch AMOLED display with a 1080 x 2400 resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate, it is more responsive than other phones in its price range while also fitting comfortably in your hand.

In addition, there is a dependable 50MP wide camera capable of producing excellent results and an 8MP ultra-wide camera. The MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI chipset offers a level of performance that should serve you well for an extended period. Its 5G support and 65W fast charging are the most impressive features. Everything is sufficiently reassuring at this price.

The OnePlus Nord CE 2 combines the “main” Nord devices and the more budget-friendly ones, providing premium features in a budget phone.

The device features 5G connectivity, quick charging, and a dainty design but lacks performance and cameras.

Despite its low price point, this smartphone will likely appeal to specific users, depending on their needs.

10. A great OnePlus phone: OnePlus 8 Pro

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”10″]

Before the release of the OnePlus 9 Pro, the OnePlus 8 Pro was the company’s best smartphone, and it remains excellent today. It distinguishes itself from previous OnePlus smartphones by having a 120Hz refresh rate coupled with an all-around superior display.

In addition to high-end processing power, 5G, wireless charging, reverse wireless charging, water resistance, an in-screen fingerprint scanner, a quad-lens camera, and virtually every other high-end feature imaginable, the OnePlus 8 Pro also features 5G, wireless charging, reverse wireless charging, water resistance, and a quad-lens camera.

As a result, it is also pricey and was nearly as expensive as significant competitors at launch, but there’s no denying that you get a lot of phones for your money.

11. Decent specs at a mid-range price: OnePlus Nord CE 5G

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”11″]

It may not be available in the United States, but the OnePlus Nord CE is worth considering for everyone else. The phone has a 6.43-inch AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, and its design is ergonomic and lightweight. It appears excellent for streaming your favorite videos or browsing quickly.

It’s not the fastest OnePlus on the market, and the camera’s performance is a bit disappointing for the price, but you’ll be pleased to see a quick charging time and a battery that performs admirably. Those who are not photographers will be happy with the content presented here.

OnePlus phone buying guide

What are the various OnePlus product lines?

The OnePlus phone lineup is relatively straightforward. At the top of the company’s lineup is its numbered flagship series, which is currently the OnePlus 10 line, with the OnePlus 11 anticipated for next year. This may include several models, such as the 10 Pro and 10T.

Following that is the Nord series. These are more affordable, ranging from budget phones to the heart of the midrange. The only complication is that different markets receive different Nord phones. While Europe and Asia receive the Nord 2T and Nord CE, the United States gets the Nord N300 and N20.

Is OnePlus identical to Oppo?

OnePlus was initially spun off from the Chinese smartphone giant Oppo several years ago, but it has since mainly operated independently.

That is no longer the case, as Oppo has reintegrated OnePlus into its fold. This means that OnePlus now uses Oppo’s research and development (R&D) and software, making its products more like Oppo’s than they were in the past. Occasionally, one company will re-release one of the other’s phones under a different brand name.

Realme is a member of the same family; therefore, you should also keep an eye on Realme smartphones, which will be similar.

What software do OnePlus smartphones utilize?

OnePlus smartphones all run Android with the OxygenOS overlay.

As mentioned, the company now uses Oppo software, so OxygenOS and ColorOS share a common code base. This indicates that the software produced by both companies is remarkably similar, except for one or two distinctive features and a slightly different aesthetic.

FAQs

OnePlus phones are known for their solid battery life and fast charging support, which is why so many users prefer them. OnePlus 8T, OnePlus 8T+, and 0ne Plus 9RT come with a 4,500 mAh battery, a class-leading feature.

The first one to make it to the list of the best OnePlus mobile phones is the OnePlus Nord 2T 5G. The smartphone is in the mid-price range, but its specifications are pretty impressive. The phone has a 6.43-inches screen size and a 1080 x 2400 pixels resolution.

  • OnePlus 10R 5G.
  • OnePlus 10 Pro.
  • OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G.
  • OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G.

While it’s likely to pack some awesome features, we expect it to cost considerably more than the OnePlus 9, so it’s not worth waiting for the launch if cost is a concern. From its lightning-fast performance to its superb battery, the OnePlus 9 has strong features that make it an excellent everyday phone for 2022.

Any OnePlus you buy should last at least five years before it totally dies. And that is a conservative estimate. If you treat your OnePlus phone well, it’s conceivable the phone could last a decade or more.

As stated earlier, OnePlus primarily creates Android smartphones. In its early days, it was known for making high-powered phones with unique design elements and low price tags. We saw this in its first phone, the OnePlus One, which had a starting cost of just $300

Conclusion

We are not overly enthusiastic about any of these phones. Over the years, OnePlus’s prices have increased, but the quality of its devices has not. Its approach to software has also changed in ways we dislike; OxygenOS 12.1 is more annoying than the OnePlus software of the past.

The OnePlus 10 Pro and OnePlus Nord N20 share many of the qualities we admired in OnePlus’s best phones in the past: speedy performance relative to its price range, above-average build quality, and an excellent display. Even at 60Hz, the N20’s 1080p OLED display is superior to what you’ll find on many other phones in its price range. If you are committed to OnePlus, there is much to like about each model. In addition, the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro have a few years of software support and cost significantly less than the OnePlus 10 Pro while offering comparable hardware.

Suppose you’re willing to consider options from other manufacturers. In that case, there are so many incredible Android phones available right now, and if you’re on a tight budget, there’s an entire market devoted to great-budget phones.
