These Are The Best Google Pixel Phones You Can Buy

If you’re searching for an alternative to Samsung or Apple, consider the best Google Pixel phones. The most recent models have streamlined designs, superior camera features, and all-day battery life. Best of all, they are less expensive than other manufacturers’ flagship models.

Google released the Pixel and Pixel XL in late 2016, with the camera experience being the focal point of marketing for this Android smartphone. The camera experience is central to Pixel phones, primarily due to sophisticated software and algorithms rather than the best camera hardware.

Google Pixel phones are comparable to the Apple iPhone in terms of software updates and Android security updates, in addition to imaging performance. Almost every software update includes enhancements, new features, and enhanced performance. You can rest assured that your Pixel phone will be supported for at least five years, unlike some other Android phones.

Following Apple’s lead, Google is also establishing an ecosystem of connected products. Google offers compelling alternatives to Apple and Samsung with its fantastic Chromebooks, new watches, and the release of the Pixel 7 series phones.

With superior camera features, long-lasting batteries, and a sleek redesign, it is easy to see why some of the best Pixel phones are worthy of consideration.

Reasons to buy a Google Pixel.

If you want to experience Android in its purest form, the best phone you can purchase is a Google Pixel. Pixels are the first to receive all operating system updates as a model created by the same company responsible for Android. It is a pure Android experience devoid of the extras that other manufacturers typically include.

In these mobile devices, the software runs smoothly and receives updates for several years. Don’t worry; they won’t be obsolete within two years. On the other hand, the Pixel operating system also knows how to generate more revenue from seemingly unimportant details, such as the vibration motor, which is superior and utilized more frequently than other brands’ terminals.

Fourteen functions are exclusive to the Google Pixel mobile device.

The design is another reason why it is worthwhile to purchase a Google Pixel, as the manufacturer consistently bets on a singular, iconic aesthetic. You risk creating the most innovative designs, such as the Google Pixel 6, which we will discuss later.

As a result of their processors, Google phones can boast high-quality screens and a fluid user experience. In addition, they share the superiority of their camera systems, which are among the finest in the Android universe.

10 Best Google Pixel Phones You Can Buy In 2022

Google’s Pixels are frequently regarded as the best Android phones on the market annually due to their class-leading cameras, exceptional performance, and software. They are commonly praised for their excellent cameras, placing them at the pinnacle of the best camera phones on the market, but this is not the only factor that makes them worthy of consideration. Their superior stock Android hardware is adored by many, and, you can’t go wrong with a Pixel. Since the Pixel lineup’s inception in 2016, this has been the case, and hopefully, nothing will change shortly.

What is the best Pixel phone currently? Let’s see if we can find the solution collectively.

1. The best Google phone overall: Google Pixel 7 Pro

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”1″]

The Pixel 7 Pro has a redesigned exterior and a superior camera upgrade. In previous models, the camera bar ended at the phone’s edge; however, in the new model, the camera bar wraps around the phone. The additional cutout further distinguishes the 7 Pro from its third camera.

Regarding the camera, my goodness, Google has stepped up its game. The new 30x Super Res Zoom lets you capture sharp, distant details. Macro Focus, exclusive to the Pixel 7 Pro, allows you to capture the smallest of details. And for aspiring filmmakers, Cinematic Blur enables you to concentrate on the foreground or background objects while blurring the rest for maximum impact.

The streamlined, recycled-materials-made design ties everything together. Reporters comment on the phone’s surprisingly lightweight. This phone is an absolute powerhouse regarding refined design and camera enhancements.

Specifications
  • Processor: Google Tensor with Titan M2 security coprocessor
  • Display: 6.4-in, QHD+ (1440 x 3120) LTPO OLED at 512 PPI
  • RAM/storage: 128 GB / 256 GB / 512 GB UFS 3.1 storage
  • Rear cameras: 50 MP Octa PD Quad Bayer wide camera
  • Front camera: 10.8MP
  • Battery capacity: Typical 5000 mAh
  • Dimensions: 162.9 height x 76.6 width x 8.9 depth (mm)
PROS
  • Sleek design made of recycled materials
  • 30x Super Res zoom works better than Samsung's version
  • Face Unlock returns to the 7 series
  • All-day battery life
CONS
  • It's expensive

2. The best Google Pixel 6-series for average users: Google Pixel 6

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”2″]

In the past, Google offered two variants, one considerably smaller than the other. The size difference is negligible this year, but essential distinctions still exist. The Pixel 6 lacks a third telephoto camera on the back, has a flat display as opposed to a curved one (this is a benefit, in my opinion), has less RAM, and has a smaller battery capacity. However, it also begins at $300, cheaper than the Pixel 6 Pro.

Camera performance has always been a pillar of the Pixel experience, and Google delivers yet again with the Pixel 6 and its unique and distinct camera bar that sits proudly near the top of the back of the phone. There is plenty of RAM to keep things dashing on the Pixel 6, while the latest Android software is optimized for the Pixel phone experience.

Some Google experiences exclusive to the Pixel 6 cannot be found on Android smartphones manufactured by Samsung, OnePlus, TCL, and others. These include the Magic Eraser tool, which allows you to quickly remove unwanted subjects from photos, the calling features of Google Assistant, and the core Material You customization options.

Specifications
  • Processor: Google Tensor with Titan M2 security coprocessor
  • Display: 6.4-inch 1080 x 2400 pixels resolution OLED
  • RAM/storage: 8GB with 128/256GB internal options
  • Rear cameras: 50MP wide, 12MP ultra-wide
  • Front camera: 8MP
  • Battery capacity: 4,614 mAh
  • Dimensions: 163 x 74.8 x 8.9 mm and 207 grams
PROS
  • Outstanding camera performance
  • Enhanced Android software experience
  • Colorful phone options
CONS
  • Cellular reception
  • No charger in the box
  • Fingerprint sensor

3. The best value Google phone: Google Pixel 5A 5G

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”3″]

The Pixel 5a with 5G may appear to be a rather dull phone with a design reminiscent of the Pixel 4a, but it packs a significant amount of power into a $450 package. There are also frequent phone-based discounts that bring the price below $400.

The black appears to be a very dark green under most lighting conditions, and there is only one RAM/storage configuration. While the Pixel 5a with 5G’s specifications are not as impressive as those of a flagship phone costing twice as much, the device’s power lies in the Google software experience. It runs the most recent version of Android and receives regular updates alongside Google’s flagship Pixel phones.

Outstanding camera performance and results remain a hallmark of Pixel smartphones. Given the mid-range processor and low-resolution display, the phone’s high-capacity battery allows you to use it for one or two days in most circumstances.

Specifications
  • Storage: 128GB 6GB RAM
  • Display: 6.34 inches, 97.0 cm2 (~85.0% screen-to-body ratio)
  • Platform: Android 11 Qualcomm SM7250 Snapdragon 765G 5G (7 nm)
  • Camera: 12.2 MP dual-pixel · 1.4 μm pixel width · Autofocus with dual-pixel phase detection
  • Battery: Li-Po 4680 mAh, non-removable
PROS
  • Reliable cameras
  • IP67 dust/water resistant rating
  • Long battery life
CONS
  • No 5G mmWave support
  • Recycled design
  • No wireless charging

4. The cheapest Google Pixel 7-series phone: Google Pixel 7

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”4″]

The Pixel 7 excels in numerous areas. It has days of battery life. Utilize its Extreme Battery Saver to get up to 72 hours of battery life on a single charge. And its Adaptive Battery lasts for more than 24 hours, giving you more time to enjoy the phone’s numerous features.

Moreover, the new camera features are fantastic if you’re an avid photographer or videographer. The front camera has an ultrawide view of 92.8 degrees, allowing you to capture more people or scenery. The Pixel 7 includes Photo Unblur and Magic Eraser for sharpening and removing distractions from photos, should you need to edit them. The phone also has Cinematic Blur, which allows you to bring the desired subjects into focus while blurring the rest for a dramatic effect that grabs the viewer’s attention.

The sleek redesign of the phone enhances its aesthetic appeal and durability. Google crafted the phone from 100 percent recycled aluminum, resulting in a durable yet lightweight grip. Ultimately, this phone demonstrates that you do not need to spend hundreds of dollars to obtain flagship features.

Specifications
  • Processor: Google Tensor G2Titan M2 security coprocessor
  • Display: 6.1-inch FHD+ (1080 x 2400) OLED at 416 PPI
  • RAM/storage: 128 GB / 256 GB UFS 3.1 storage
  • Rear camera: 50 MP Octa PD Quad Bayer wide camera
  • Front camera: 10.8MP
  • Battery capacity: Typical 4355 mAh
  • Dimensions: 155.6 height x 73.2 width x 8.7 depth (mm)
PROS
  • It's affordable
  • Battery lasts more than 24 hours
  • 100% recycled aluminum construction
  • 25% brighter outdoors to enhance visibility
  • Ultra-wide view allows you to capture a larger field of vision in your shots
CONS
  • Doesn't have some of the photo features the Pixel 7 Pro has

5. A great Pixel camera phone: Google Pixel 6 Pro

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”5″]

The Google Pixel 6 Pro is the company’s first truly premium smartphone in a while, if not ever.

However, it differs from most flagships and most Pixels in its approach. Its design is brand-new and notably distinct from other phones of any brand. Its large camera block resembling a visor won’t be to everyone’s taste, but it will undoubtedly turn heads.

Google has taken the unusual step of equipping the Pixel 6 Pro with an in-house chipset known as the Google Tensor and built specifically for the Pixel 6 series with AI and machine learning in mind.

Add a versatile triple-lens camera with a 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide, and a 48MP telephoto (with 4x optical zoom), as well as a 6.71-inch QHD+ screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, and this is an incredibly exciting smartphone.

In our review, we discovered that the Pixel’s battery life wasn’t the best, but other than that, this is the best Pixel available for purchase.

Specifications
  • Dimensions: 163.9 x 75.9 x 8.9mm
  • OS: Android 12
  • Screen size: 6.71-inch
  • Resolution: 1440 x 3120
  • CPU: Google Tensor
  • RAM: 12GB
  • Storage: 128GB/256GB/512GB
  • Battery: 5,003mAh
  • Rear camera: 50MP + 48MP + 12MP
  • Front camera: 11.1MP
PROS
  • Gorgeous hardware design with IP68 and durable Gorilla Glass Victus all over
  • Excellent display with 120Hz and great sunlight legibility
  • Beautiful UI with fun and colorful elements; extended firmware update support (3 years OS, 5 years security); newly enabled Voice Typing and on-device voice to text processing are excellent
  • Google Tensor chip offers great all-around performance and excellent graphics performance
  • Pixel camera sees much needed improvements in still images and video; excellent shots from 4X periscope camera
CONS
  • Battery life misses expectations
  • No charger included in the box
  • 30W charging is not the quickest
  • HDR+ is too aggressive in still images and could use some tweaks
  • Color tuning inconsistent between main and ultrawide cameras
  • Google Tensor chip throttles under sustained peak performance
  • Limited availability

6. The best on a budget: Google Pixel 6a

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”6″]

The Google Pixel 6a is a compact, lightweight smartphone that fits comfortably in your pocket. A reliable fingerprint scanner and an attractive 6.1-inch full HD+ display help to counteract the device’s cheap appearance.

The 12.2MP primary, 12MP ultra-wide, and 8MP front-facing cameras are supported by many clever AI software tricks and extras, allowing you to take excellent photos. Google’s Magic Eraser is an even better tool for removing unwanted elements (or people) from your photographs.

As a result of its clean stock Android 13 operating system, the Google Pixel 6a can offer mid-range performance, with the only real drawback being relatively poor battery life. Despite this, the Google Pixel 6a is worth considering for those seeking a compact smartphone.

Specifications
  • Dimensions: 152.2 x 71.8 x 8.9 mm
  • OS: Android 12
  • Screen size: 6.1-inch
  • Resolution: 1080 x 2400
  • CPU: Google Tensor
  • RAM: 6GB
  • Storage: 128GB
  • Battery: 4,410mAh
  • Rear camera: 12.2+12MP
  • Front camera: 8MP
PROS
  • Attractive, compact design that looks more expensive than it is.
  • Bright and accurate AMOLED display.
  • Good sustained performance from the Google Tensor this time.
  • Extended firmware update support; Voice Typing and on-device language processing is excellent.
  • Great all-around camera.
CONS
  • Isolated instances of a fingerprint security flaw are not acceptable.
  • 60Hz refresh rate is not competitive for this price range.
  • Headphone jack is gone.
  • No charger included in the box.

7. The best older Pixel: Google Pixel 5

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”7″]

The Google Pixel 5 may have fewer advanced features than its predecessor, but you still get a phone that does everything you could want at a competitive price. The Pixel 5’s camera software is unquestionably its standout feature, as it offers many editing tools and ways to create better images from your snapshots.

Extreme Battery Saver, which strips the phone down to its essentials when the battery is running low, also extends the phone’s battery life beyond its predecessor.

These minor features, combined with the Google Pixel 5’s clean Android interface, make it an attractive device at an attractive price. Just keep an eye out for the slightly slower processor and the removal of Google’s touch-free gesture control system, Soli. They are minor compromises for an otherwise excellent smartphone.

Specifications
  • Dimensions: 144.7mm x 70.4mm x 8mm
  • OS: Android 11
  • Screen size: 6-inch
  • Resolution: 2340 x 1080
  • CPU: Snapdragon 765G
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Storage: 128GB
  • Battery: 4000mAh
  • Rear camera: 16MP + 12MP
  • Front camera: 8MP
PROS
  • Less bezel, more screen, more pocketable
  • Plastic-reinforced metal build with two-directional wireless charging
  • Much-improved display brightness over Pixel 4
  • Speakers are loud
  • Superb battery endurance
  • Pixel-only features like Hold for Me and Robo Call-screening
  • Finally, an ultra-wide camera on a Pixel
CONS
  • Snapdragon 765G performance is severely handicapped in this phone
  • Recycled main camera hardware with incremental improvements to image quality
  • Limited to a single 128GB storage configuration
  • No "XL" variant this year

8. A budget take on the Pixel 4: Google Pixel 4a

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”8″]

The Google Pixel 4a is the company’s budget-friendly version of the Pixel 4, with a few cost-cutting features compared to the Pixel 4.

It has a single rear camera, a plastic body, and a physical fingerprint sensor, all characteristics of inexpensive phones. Still, if you don’t want the Pixel 4’s top features, you probably won’t mind those compromises.

Given the rarity of sub-6-inch-screen smartphones in 2020, the phone’s diminutive size may be enough to sway some.

Specifications
  • Dimensions: 144 x 69.4 x 8.2mm
  • OS: Android 10
  • Screen size: 5.81-inch
  • Resolution: 1080 x 2340
  • CPU: Snapdragon 730G
  • RAM: 6GB
  • Storage: 128GB
  • Battery: 3,140mAh
  • Rear camera: 12.2MP
  • Front camera: 8MP
PROS
  • Great display
  • Comfortable, compact size
  • Plenty of RAM and storage
  • Headphone jack
  • Smooth, snappy software
  • Still images nearly indistinguishable from Pixel 4XL, astrophotography
CONS
  • Not much of an upgrade over Pixel 3a and Pixel 5 launch is imminent
  • Battery life is average
  • Selfie camera's foccus plane is too far

9. A great XL Pixel: Google Pixel 4 XL

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”9″]

Before the release of the Pixel 5, the Google Pixel 4 XL topped our list of the best Pixel smartphones, and it also avoids some of its non-XL sibling’s flaws.

The Google Pixel 4 XL has a high-end camera, a high-quality display, two front-facing cameras, and a few unique features designed specifically for the Pixel 4 range, such as Soli, which offers gesture controls without touch.

Even at the time of its release, the phone’s chipset was slightly dated, its battery was relatively small, and it lacked the storage capacity of some other phones. However, its advantages outweigh its disadvantages, which is why it ranks highly on this list.

Specifications
  • Dimensions: 160.4 x 75.1 x 8.2mm
  • OS: Android 10
  • Screen size: 6.3-inch
  • Resolution: 1440 x 3040
  • CPU: Snapdragon 855
  • RAM: 6GB
  • Storage: 64GB/128GB
  • Battery: 3,700mAh
  • Rear camera: 12.2MP + 16MP
  • Front camera: 8MP + TOF
PROS
  • Big display with 90Hz refresh rate
  • Two rear cameras with improved photography software
  • Excellent face unlock
  • Genuinely helpful, smart software
  • New Recorder app
  • Motion Sense controls
CONS
  • Big top bezel
  • Base model has only 64GB of storage
  • No more unlimited, original-quality photo storage
  • Battery life isn't great
  • Motion Sense has little real-world use
  • Low RAM and storage for the money
  • Sound lacks life
  • Barely any apps support Face Unlock

10. Older but still good: Google Pixel 3 XL

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”10″]

The Google Pixel 3 XL is one of the older phones on this list, but as a result, it is more affordable than some others, and we, therefore, recommend it.

The Pixel 3 XL has a great camera, as expected from Pixel phones, but it also has a high-quality screen and a long-lasting battery. It was a great phone when it was released, and it still is, even though it has been around for a while.

The phone has been discontinued, but it is worth considering if you can find it somewhere.

Specifications
  • Dimensions: 158 x 76.7 x 7.9mm
  • OS: Android 10
  • Screen size: 6.3-inch
  • Resolution: 1440 x 2960
  • CPU: Snapdragon 845
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Storage: 64GB/128GB
  • Battery: 3,430mAh
  • Rear camera: 12.2MP
  • Front camera: 8MP + 8MP
PROS
  • Large, high resolution display
  • Clean software with some incredibly advanced features
  • Smooth UI
  • Powerful speakers
  • Excellent camera
CONS
  • Awkwardly large body with slippery slides
  • Back glass scuffs easily
  • Notch and chin take up significant space at front
  • Display doesn't get bright enough
  • Touchscreen constantly reacts to accidental touches around edges
  • Camera has flicker under fluorescent lighting
  • Unbalanced left and right speaker volume
  • Low RAM bottlenecks performance
  • Storage option maxes out at 128GB
  • No 4K 60 video mode for camera

Methodology: Picking the best Google Pixel phones

To determine the best Google Pixel smartphones available, we analyzed the entire Pixel lineup, from the original Pixel to the most recent Pixel 6 series. Then, we evaluated several criteria, including:

  • Release date
  • Hardware
  • Software experience
  • 5G support
  • Pricing and availability
  • Carrier support
  • Security updates

We compared individual Pixel iterations, other Android phones, and iOS devices using this information. Then, we consulted proprietary information to determine which Google Pixel devices are optimal for users and requirements.

Considerations for Purchasing a Google Pixel Phone

No one phone is ideal for everyone; instead, the hardware you should acquire is determined by your needs. Let’s look at the most vital considerations when choosing a Google Pixel.

Cost

Price is often a deciding factor. Fortunately, even Google’s flagship Pixel 6 Pro costs less than the average flagship Android or iPhone. Set a budget, then determine which Pixels are available within that price range. Take advantage of trade-in deals and discounts to acquire a free or inexpensive Pixel.

Carrier compatibility and 5G support

We advise investing in a 5G-capable phone for futureproofing. 5G is a complete game-changer, promising faster upload and download speeds and reduced latency compared to 4G LTE signals. Examine your carrier’s 5G coverage to determine if it’s worthwhile to obtain 5G support.

Expect aggressive expansion in the coming months and years, even if your carrier’s 5G footprint is not yet available in many locations. By acquiring a Pixel with 5G, you can avoid needing a quick upgrade. Nonetheless, it is a cost-effective purchase if you can find a cheap Pixel 4 or 4 XL and are satisfied with 4G LTE.

Hardware and specs

The underlying hardware in your device is essential, though its importance varies based on your phone’s usage. For instance, if you’re an aspiring photographer, you should get a Pixel with the best camera possible. Prioritize a robust processor if you’re a gamer. Consider your specific requirements and select a phone accordingly.

FAQs

Display refresh rates are currently a factor, as Android phones now support 120 Hz refresh rates. Displays with high refresh rates, the default 60 Hz, enable you to scroll up and down the screen with incredible speed and fluidity. It is most noticeable when swiping side-by-side with devices with different rates, but it is difficult to go backward after using a phone with a 120 Hz refresh rate.

The Pixel 7 Pro supports a refresh rate of up to 90 Hz, the Pixel 6 supports a refresh rate of up to 90 Hz, while the Pixel 5a and Pixel 6a retain the standard 60 Hz rate. 90 Hz is a good compromise between the two frequencies.

Today, people use their smartphones everywhere, so dust and water resistance are crucial features. Without a waterproof case, you should not swim or intentionally submerge your phone in water for extended periods, and most warranties do not cover water damage. Nonetheless, if you are outside in the rain, drop your phone in a puddle by accident, or spill something on it, it should be able to withstand such an incident.

Thankfully, all the current Pixel smartphones have high dust and water resistance. The Pixel 5a and Pixel 6a are IP67-rated, while the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are IP68-rated.

Wireless charging is a convenient alternative to plugging a USB-C cable directly into your phone to charge it. In many cases, wireless charging is now rated as fast, but despite this “fast” rating, it is still faster to charge your phone using a USB-C cable.

The Pixel 7 Pro and the Pixel 7 support fast wireless charging, whereas neither the Pixel 5a nor the Pixel 6a does.

In 2022, one should consider purchasing a Google Pixel phone with a high degree of certainty. This is especially true for those who have built their lives around the Android ecosystem, as opposed to those who have built their lives around the Apple ecosystem. Pixel phones’ compatibility with Android-friendly accessories and smart home devices is not necessarily superior to that of a Samsung flagship device, but Pixels are still a solid choice.

While stock Android is one of the Pixel’s greatest strengths, it is also its Achilles heel. The stock, unmodified Android interface may be advantageous for some users but lacks the customizability and flexibility typically associated with Android. Some custom OEM Android skins, such as Samsung’s One UI, OnePlus’ Oxygen OS, and Xiaomi’s MIUI, among others, offer a collection of features absent from stock Android and the Pixels. This could disadvantage those who desire greater control over their interfaces.

Google has recently pledged five years of extended security support (until 2027) and three years of guaranteed Android updates for the Pixel 7-series (until 2025). On the other hand, the Pixel 6-series will receive major Android updates until 2024 and software security patches until late 2026. Due to its later release, the Pixel 6a will receive major Android updates until July 2025 and security support until July 2027.

Earlier Google Pixel phones, such as the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a-series, are halfway through their digital lifespan and will no longer receive major Android and security updates for a few more years. The Pixel 4a and Pixel 4a (5G) will receive Android and security updates until August and November 2023, respectively, while the Pixel 5 and Pixel 5a will receive updates until August and November 2023, respectively.

Should You Purchase A Google Pixel?

Why do individuals prefer Pixel phones? I believe it is primarily due to software and camera technology. If all else is equal, these are the two most compelling reasons to choose a Pixel phone over a similarly priced Samsung phone.

In addition to its 50MP main sensor and 12MP ultrawide sensor, the Pixel 7 Pro also features a 48MP telephoto lens. Both phones have access to Google’s unique image processing tools, including Night Sight, Motion Mode, Real Tone, Photo Unblur, and Google’s incredible Magic Eraser.
