The 5 Fastest Charging Phones In 2022: Best Reviews And Guides

Fast charging is one of the phone features that has grown exponentially over the past several years and continues to do so. Phone manufacturers, particularly those from China, regularly surprise us with their innovative charging technologies.

The results of these efforts are evident in today’s modern smartphones, some of which can be fully charged in under thirty minutes. Consequently, this also implies that individuals’ charging practices have changed. Juicing up your phone throughout the night, for example, is a habit that slowly but surely is disappearing, as it is not necessary anymore.

However, one of the most frequently voiced concerns regarding fast charging technology is its potential impact on battery life. In that regard, manufacturers have also begun to focus on ways to mitigate that issue but regulating the temperatures of the phone that is being charged, since the higher temperature is the main reason a battery’s life span shortens over time.

With this in mind, we have compared the recharging speeds of the most recent popular smartphones.

The following are the fastest-charging phones currently available, as well as a few details about the technologies used by each manufacturer.

What Is Fast Charging?

Every new smartphone promises faster charging, but what do the various charging standards mean, and are they all equally fast? We simplify everything for you. Quickly charging your phone or tablet can mean the difference between hours of worry-free use and frantically searching for a coffee shop with an available power outlet. Fast charging is an increasingly popular feature that allows you to charge your device in a fraction of the time it takes to charge it traditionally. However, not all products utilize the same type of fast charging, and not all chargers are compatible with the various standards. You need to know here to ensure you receive the fastest possible charge.

How Does Fast Charging Work?

The output of a charge is measured in amperage and voltage. Amperage (or current) is the amount of electricity flowing from the battery to the device, whereas voltage is the strength of the electric current. Multiplying volts by amps yields wattage, the unit of measurement for total power.

To make a device charge faster, most manufacturers either boost the amperage or vary the voltage to increase the potential energy. Most fast-charging standards go to the voltage rather than increasing the current.

For smaller devices, such as wearables, standard USB 3.0 ports output 5V/1A. Most phones and other devices are capable of handling 5V/2.4A. For fast charging, manufacturers bump the voltage from 5V to 9V or 12V and beyond or increase the amperage to 3A and above. The introduction of USB-C helps accomplish this with support for up to 100W and 20V, which makes faster-charging speeds possible.

Remember that your device’s charging circuit will only accept as much power as it is designed to. Fast charging requires a phone or other device with a charging circuit capable of using one of the fast-charging standards and an adapter and cable enabled for that standard.

Fast charging: advantages and disadvantages

Once you’ve experienced the convenience of rapid charging, you won’t want to go back. Charging devices manually is a hassle most people prefer to avoid if they can, and fast charging allows you to get through the ordeal quickly. It can also be a lifesaver if you forget to charge your phone and scramble to find an outlet at the last minute.

To implement fast charging, however, the separator within the battery must be thicker, increasing the size of your phone and battery. Fast charging (particularly the heat generated in the process) impacts the long-term health of your phone’s battery, but not enough to be a deal-breaker.

So, if you’re in the market for a new phone and want to know which ones are the best, consult this list.

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”1″]

Xiaomi was the first brand in India to offer smartphones with more than 100W charging. Xiaomi 11i and 11T Pro include support for 120W fast charging. The 11T Pro’s battery capacity is 5000mAh, while the Xiaomi 11i’s is 4500mAh.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 system-on-chip powers the 11T Pro. The Xiaomi 11T Pro has a triple camera system consisting of a 108MP primary camera, an 8MP wide-angle camera, and a 5MP macro camera. The 11T Pro has a 16MP front-facing camera for selfies and video calls.

In 2020, Xiaomi modified its flagship strategy by introducing the Mi 10 series in the summer and the value-oriented Mi 10T six months later. In the past seven years, OnePlus has mastered this dual-release cycle, so it was natural for Xiaomi to follow suit.

Consequently, Xiaomi’s flagship lineup is stronger than ever. The Mi 11 and Mi 11 Ultra are two of the best Android smartphones, and with MIUI 12.5, Xiaomi has made necessary software updates. The Chinese manufacturer also focused on charging technology; it was outclassed in this area by its BBK competitors, with OnePlus and OPPO offering 65W charging by default, so Xiaomi needed a win here.

With the 11T series, it has accomplished this. The Xiaomi 11T Pro comes standard with 120W fast charging, allowing the 5000mAh battery to be fully charged in just 20 minutes. The phone is also the first in a rebranding initiative that sees the manufacturer abandon its Mi roots in favor of eponymous branding for its flagships.

2. iQOO 10 Pro

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”2″]

iQOO has, after more than three years of effort, successfully made us forget that it began as a gaming-phone brand. The iQOO 8 was released in August last year, followed by the iQOO 9 series in January and the iQoo 10 series, as promised, in July. 4. Apple iPhone 12

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”4″]

The iPhone 12 has a 2,815mAh battery, which is approximately 10% smaller than the iPhone 11’s battery. Apple promises the same battery life as the iPhone 11, despite adding the power efficient A14 Bionic chip. It’s not the same.

The iPhone 12 performed well in our battery life test, lasting nearly 20 hours for phone calls and 13 hours for web browsing or video playback. The iPhone 11 scored more significantly than 15 hours for web browsing and almost 19 hours for video playback in screen-on tests last year.

The Apple iPhone 12 supports USB Power Delivery for rapid battery charging. Apple ships the phone without a charger, but Apple’s 20W PD charger or another USB-PD compatible adapter can be purchased separately. In 30 minutes, recharging a dead iPhone 12 with Apple’s 20W charger will restore 58% of the battery.

The iPhone 12 supports 15W fast wireless charging with MagSafe-compatible chargers only. Otherwise, you would be limited to 5W-8W. We tried charging the iPhone 12 with Apple’s MagSafe wireless charger, and the results were disappointing. First, it took 5 minutes to revive our dead iPhone 12 and then 30 minutes to charge the battery to 30%. This charger’s full charge requires three hours!

  • MagSafe is a promising accessory concept
  • No charger or headphones in the box
  • No high refresh rate screen
  • Battery life is shorter than iPhone 11
  • iOS needs better file management
  • We miss TouchID as FaceID does not work with a mask on

5. Asus ROG Phone 5

[content-egg module=AmazonNoApi template=item groups=”5″]

The gaming phone from Asus is one of the fastest-charging phones available. The 6,000mAh battery is supported by a 65W charger, allowing the Asus ROG Phone 5 to charge from 0% to 70% in thirty minutes. Additionally, it reached a respectable 44% in 15 minutes.

While leaving a battery at full charge for an extended period is undoubtedly detrimental, heat is likely the greatest battery killer. Typically, a faster charging rate produces more heat. Consequently, the Steady charging option was included. It enables you to limit the charging rate to a lower wattage and prioritize battery life over a quicker top-off. The ROG Phone 5 supports three levels of Steady Charging, each of which behaves differently depending on which charger is plugged in.

Scheduled charging can also be combined with Steady Charging and the Custom Charging limit. As the name suggests, it is a system that intelligently charges your battery on a curve, so it does not remain permanently at 100%, trickle charging for hours. Incredibly convenient for overnight charging, with options such as end time by alarm, do not disturb, airplane mode, and battery-led indicator off.

  • Processor: Qualcomm SM8350 Snapdragon 888
  • RAM: 8 GB, 12 GB, 16 GB
  • Storage: 128 GB, 256 GB
  • Display: 6.78 inches
  • Camera: Triple Camera
  • Battery: Li-Po 6000 mAh
  • Excellent performance
  • Neat built-in gaming features
  • Powerful front-facing speakers
  • 144Hz AMOLED screen
  • Excellent software package
  • Very fast charging
  • Still no telephoto lens
  • "Gamer" aesthetic not for everyone
  • Gets hot quickly
  • No wireless charging
  • Bulky and heavy
  • No IP68 water resistance
  • Poor long-term software support

Fast Charging Beyond Your Phone

The fast charging situation for laptops is a bit different. USB Power Delivery (PD) is a standard that determines whether an adapter or portable power bank can charge a laptop or other high-powered device. Adapters and power banks can now charge devices requiring an output of 18W or more, as USB-C input/output ports have become standard. The Power Delivery specification permits a maximum charging current of 5A or 100W.

Power Delivery 3.0 is rapidly becoming the industry standard for power banks and adapters. Each output has voltage and amperage configuration: 7.5W, 15W, 27W, and 45W. PD adapters with multiple USB-C ports can intelligently distribute power to various devices. For instance, a 45W adapter may provide 18W to charge a smartphone, 5W to a wearable, and the remaining 22W to a tablet. Power Delivery 3.1 supports a maximum of 240W of power.

Charge To: 100%. As the only one smartphone equipped with 200W wired fast charge in the world, iQOO 10 Pro sits firmly on the champion throne, only take 9 mins 48 s to charge the phone power from 5% to 100%.

You’d think with all that extra power there could be a risk to your battery. From our findings though, fast charging doesn’t cause any more damage to your phone than standard charging. It will get hotter, but not at extreme enough levels that would cause noticeable harm.

As a general rule, a charger needs to be at least 18W from a single port to deliver fast charging.

Samsung Super Fast Charging guarantees 25W of peak charging power, with potential to go beyond. In a nutshell, Samsung Super Fast Charging guarantees a minimum charging power of 25W. On select devices like the Galaxy S22 Plus and S22 Ultra, that figure jumps up to 45W.

With fast charging, people are less likely to care for their batteries extensively, which causes them to excessively charge and drain the batteries, shortening their lifespan. The second critical disadvantage is the way phones can overheat due to this phone charger technology.

Slower charging actually is better because there is less internal heat build-up. Temperature extremes, whether hot or cold, are never good for a battery. So if you charge a battery a thousand times slowly as opposed to a thousand “fast charges”, the former will have a longer life, all other things being equal.

Fast charging isn’t inherently dangerous for your phone’s battery. Fast chargers cannot “overload” a battery since the smartphone will only request as much power as the device can handle. This means you can safely use a USB charger that pumps out more wattage your device’s maximum charging rate.

It’s usually the current drawn by the device and provided by the charger which makes the difference. General: As all USB gadgets charge with 5V, the current flow is deciding how fast the device could theoretically charge.

What You Need for Fast Charging

The fast charging standard available to you will vary depending on your device. Check what your phone supports, then examine your wall adapter to determine whether it supports the same standard (they are typically labeled). Then, ensure that your cable is compatible; if possible, use the cable with your phone or adapter. When purchasing a new wall adapter, cable, or wireless charging pad, be mindful of the standard it supports.
