Optics & Design
As already announced in our overview of the new Blaster series, the Nerf Zeus also comes to your home in blue/black or red / black robes. The fresh, very ergonomic bullpup chassis looks futuristic and lifts this blaster quite clearly from all nerfs from. On the one hand, the typical visual features of the series are the “RIVAL” and black arrows. On the other hand, you have probably saved some color – we do not find any further bad because the overall picture is simply harmonious and we like more than good. More than good we also like that this Blaster has equipped with a fuse, which is on one side over the handle. On the opposite side, as usual from previous models, there is a small flap for the removal of load inhibitions.
The new ball magazine holds a total of 12 balls and can be removed or inserted from both sides. The special housing shape allows for a comfortable handling despite the massive weight of the 6 C batteries. Here you have done everything right!
The Nerf Zeus in our test
It reached a range of 20 meters if one held the Zeus straight. In many Youtube videos, however, there are higher ranges – the majority of the balls collected at a good 22 meters. Although this is neat, with the high muzzle velocity, we would have expected something more. On the positive side, however, is the low variance and the good precision, in addition to an impressive four darts / second. With Hasbro’s first switch to a new projectile in the course of the Nerf Vortex product line, the accuracy was short – with one reason why this series never really lit.
Future-proof is the new magazine design. No more annoying here, with darts suffering and wear. Ruckzuck you have the balls in the tubular magazine filled – you hold it simply obliquely and lets the balls roll into one end. This is child-friendly to use – a perfect, thought-provoking system. In Zeus tests, which we have seen, it did not happen a single time to load inhibitions or running jammed floors. Also, the possibility of inserting the magazine from both sides opens up, lefthanders a decent plus of operating comfort.
On the Internet singing voices are voiced, complaining about the too loud engine at the Nerf Zeus. We can not understand this completely, because a semi-automatic or fully automatic blaster, which is almost completely made of plastic, brings with it a certain volume. In direct comparison with the Nerf Demolisher, we could hardly make a difference in this regard. If you are still bothered by the engine sounds, then maybe the Nerf Apollo is the better choice for you.
What we do not really like is the fact that Hasbro still relies on the use of batteries. With six large C batteries, the slow is impractical. Sure, you can increase the corresponding rechargeable variants here, but a change to a modern battery would be the better choice. We hope that in the future one decides for a better alternative – but we do not reckon with it.
Our conclusion: The Zeus was the first model from the new series that I was allowed to test. I went with some expectations of this innovative blaster; some were fulfilled, others less and incidentally I discovered some positive aspects, which I had not expected at all. In any case, the good precision, the quick succession, the new design as well as the magazine with the corresponding round projectiles are brilliant. Quite different from the Vortex series, which found some fans, altogether rather floppy, one set of the Nerf Zeus new standards on the Blaster market. Never again broken darts, which ensure loading inhibitions and are difficult to push into the magazine – that I have longed for a long time and with the new magazine and dart technique seems to have finally fulfilled this wish. A small wailing drop is, however, especially with the Zeus the six large batteries, which are necessary for the operation. This annoys and is impractical. A lithium battery would have been the better solution.
We are sure that the new Rival technology will reach the German market in some form. How this will look exactly, we can only imagine roughly, but we are not denied this new generation of blasters. We will keep you up to date on this. As already mentioned several times, you can order the Nerf Zeus already from the USA already – but does not speak whether this Nerf Gun is the right toy for your child, is written on a whole different sheet.
Excellent performance, groundbreaking technology, cool style – from us there is a definite purchase recommendation!
