Nerf Rapidstrike CS-18 Review

Tension – pushing – tensioning – pushing – tensioning – pushing … Many of us get on our nerves. The solution is a battery powered, fully automatic blaster. Then you press the trigger just as long as you want, while the weapon cheerfully spits one dart after another. The problem was mostly that they were big as well as unwieldy Nerfs. But this is now over: With the Nerf N Strike Elite Rapidstrike CS-18, Hasbro brings a compact storm gun with full automatic power into the race and this very specimen we take today exactly under the magnifying glass. Have fun!

Optics

The N-Strike Elite series is also available with this Nerf Gun: blue/orange in the regular as well as white/blue / orange in the XD version. As far as the shape is concerned, the weapon is quite futuristic but reminds me of a SIG 552 with an additional carrying handle. All in all, this is a compact, slightly more powerful storm gun, which is great in every situation. At the back, there is a removable shoulder rest and at the front the accustomed foldable grain.

Technology

The Blaster 4 1.5V LR14 batteries are required for the fully automatic Rapidstrike. Before the darts can fly, the accelerator switch must first be pressed, after that the motor starts to hum – now the trigger has to be actuated, and it can start. In the inside of the Blaster is once again the familiar flywheel system, that is used exclusively with the Nerf Rapidstrike (and the Nerf Vortex Nitron) for a fully automatic Mods – and this works very well.

Modding

The Nerf Rapidstrike comes with a total of 3 rails and four options: one is on the handle, one on the barrel and two underneath. Except for the shoulder support, all extensions from the modus kits, including all of the runouts (except for the long strike), fit. More information here: Nerf Modding

Tuning

The power of the flywheel system can be upgraded with a voltage mod of blaster parts. The operating voltage of the Nerf Rapidstrike – including that of the Rapidstrike XD – is almost doubled, whereby the darts with a higher muzzle speed leave the barrel. The range and the penetration force increase drastically. Here you can find all the information and the right tuning set: Nerf Tuning.

Test report: N-Strike Elite Nerf Rapidstrike CS-18

In 2013, Hasbro launched the Nerf Rapidstrike CS-18 from the N-Strike Elite Series, and the unofficial successor of the Stampede ECS is still one of the best designed Nerf guns. As a new generation, it surpasses its predecessor in almost everything: reach, target accuracy, and fire speed. The Rapidstrike CS-18 also uses more reliable components that are less vulnerable and less complex than their predecessors, thereby blocking them less frequently.

One year later, the Nerf Cam ECS-12 came out surprisingly as an Elite Rapidstrike looks, just extended by a (real lousy) camera for recording action videos. Despite similar functionality, the Cam ECS-12 costs 80 to 100 euros. Since the cam is not needed, we recommend staying with the Nerf Rapidstrike CS-18 and the money saved in the GoPro savings stock.

The Nerf Rapidstrike CS-18 then experienced a real upgrade this year because it is now available in the XD (stands for extra range). The original and XD version is available for around 40 euros to buy. Also in the modder scene, both models enjoy great popularity, so there are numerous Youtube videos showing how more batteries can be installed or a shot counter can be integrated.

Design and ergonomics of the CS-18

The Nerf Rapidstrike comes with 18 darts and holds four batteries which are inserted into the barrel. The shoulder piece can be adjusted but not removed. Overall, the design is very tactically oriented, the CS-18 offers, for example, five Tac rails (to defer additional equipment) and three attachment points for the rifle strap. The color selection is bright with blue-orange as with most nerf guns, but it works harmoniously and well placed.

The ergonomics of the Nerf Rapidstrike is excellent and to Dato one of the best among the Nerf products. The handle has just the right size (for adults), and despite the battery maintenance, which is close to the running, it does not look copious. Also, the front hand will absorb a lot of weight and relieve our trigger hand.

Handling and performance of Rapidstrike

As usual, the N-Strike Elite Rapidstrike CS-18 can be changed by activating the Acceleration Trigger (Accelerator) from a single shot in a fully automatic fire mode. The engines howl, and the darts fly. As a third fire mode, Burst-Fire is still available, with 2-3 darts at once. We would like to advise you to the third mode, because to the one the magazine empties completely in full mode and secondly, the latter lowers the speed of the flywheels whereby our darts lose speed and fly less far.

The Nerf Rapidstrike CS-18 has a 15-meter range and a 17.5-meter range for an angled shot. On the other hand, the Rapidstrike in the single fire mode creates a whopping 21 meters, not as much as promised, but that did not create any Nerf Gun anyway. The reason for this is as indicated the high speed of the darts. On average, the Elite CS-18 creates a 21-meter-second flight speed (so it shoots as fast as far).

Despite its name, the Rapidstrike hangs a little behind at the shot frequency, although it achieved excellent scores, it takes 6.9 seconds to empty a 25 dart drum (in car fire mode), here the Nerf Cam is 5.5 seconds faster,

It should be noted that the Rapidstrike tends to be jammed despite better technology than the Stampede ECS. This can be corrected by a little modding (better motors).

Our conclusion to Rapidstrike

As a conclusion, the N-Strike Elite Nerf Rapidstrike CS-18 is a must for every Nerf fan; you can not be wrong with this blaster. The measured values (range 21 meters) and flight speed (also 21 meters / second) are very good, and the magazine is comfortable with 18 rounds. It fits even for adults passageway in the hands, is well-balanced and offers plenty of Nerf for little money. Added tactical advantages as you have five leads for additional equipment.
