Schüssler salts can help children by supporting the healing process of disease – What are Schüssler salts and how do they work? Can they even help with teething? Do you have side effects? These and other questions we answer in the following text.
Schüssler salts – a biochemical healing method
The term “biochemical” is no cause for uncertainty because Schüssler salts have nothing to do with chemistry. You are after the homeopath Dr. Wilhelm Heinrich Schüßler, who researched a new method of healing over a hundred years ago.
He assumed that diseases are based on dysfunction due to the mineral content of the body cells: If this is an imbalance, the consequences on the organism, which can manifest itself in disease symptoms, so the thesis.
As part of his research, Dr. Schüßler to twelve mineral salts, which are required for the maintenance of bodily functions. On a homeopathic basis, he potentiated these and prescribed them as a remedy for his patients. He described it as an expression of the “natural chemistry of life” as a biochemical remedy, which he numbered for the sake of simplicity for the laity – they are referred to as Schüssler salts 1 to 12.
Typical complaints in children
Infants often suffer from infections, inflammatory complaints, growth and toothache pains, gastrointestinal problems and minor injuries: the immune system has yet to mature, the intestinal flora has to build up and stabilize, the body develops quite fast, and each one falls while playing and romping Have a go. In such cases, Schuessler salts can help alleviate the symptoms and promote the healing process.
Infectious diseases and inflammation
Infections, as well as inflammations, basically proceed in three stages, to which three different mineral salts are assigned. In the first stage, the disease develops with atypical symptoms such as body aches, malaise or sensitivity to cold. Here the administration of Ferrum phosphorus (# 3) is recommended in ten to fifteen-minute intervals.
The symptoms in the second stage are already more specific. A cough, runny nose, fever, sore throat or swelling may occur. Then it’s time for six to eight doses of potassium chlorate (# 4) a day.
If the symptoms improve, the healing process sometimes runs slowly, for example in the form of persistent coughing. In this case, potassium sulfuricum (# 6) can support the body. Three gifts are recommended throughout the day.
Teething problems are accompanied by symptoms similar to those of influenza infections or inflammations: mumps is a sore throat, while measles, rubella, and scarlet fever make the skin itchy. Although every childhood disease has to heal itself, it is still possible to proceed according to the infection and inflammation scheme.
Especially for chickenpox , potassium phosphoricum (# 5), sodium chloratum (# 8) and magnesium phosphoricum (# 7) are recommended.
Growth and teething pain
Growth problems affect the overall condition. Here, Calcium phosphoricum (# 2) is the drug of choice. In acute pain, you should give a dose every fifteen minutes until fading; then the distance is increased to one hour. In the evening you can also use biochemical ointment, also No. 2, to rub in the legs.
Even with Zahnungsbeschwerden has proven calcium phosphoricum (# 2). A dose is recommended three times a day to help build the tooth and facilitate breakthrough. In case of severe pain or longer-lasting discomfort, calcium fluorite (# 1) can be given in turn – this mineral salt is said to help improve the elasticity of the gum tissue. Sodium chlorate (# 8) is added to Schüssler’s salt # 2 with heavy salivation.
As with all stages of development, accompanying symptoms may occur during teething, which makes the administration of further Schüssler salts meaningful:
- Fever or indigestion: Ferrum phosphoricum (# 3)
- Restlessness and mood swings: Kalium phosphoricum (# 6)
Prevention and first aid
Ferrum phosphoricum (# 3) is also referred to as the “salt of the immune system.” It is therefore given over a longer period to children who are often caught cold. Also, it is used in smaller accidents in everyday life, for example, to prevent greater pain in a bruise or inflammation in case of scratches and abrasions.
Since Schuessler salts are potentiated like homeopathic remedies and send a signal to the body via the potency of the mineral salt to restore a certain functionality, no side effects are to be expected. They can, therefore, be given to babies. In these, the usual dose is usually reduced to a quarter and in small children on half tablets, which you can dissolve in some water.
There are breastfeeding mothers and the ability to take the Schüssler salts in the adult-recommended dose. So the infant receives it via the breast milk. Older children can just let them melt in their mouths.
